"In Bangladesh, where fast fashion accounts for 80 percent of export earnings, the nearly 600,000 people who make clothes for H&M suppliers earned an average of $119 a month in the first half of 2023. Anger over low pay exploded last October when garment workers set fire to factories and smashed up sewing machines."

GlobalData retail analyst Neil Saunders tells Just Style: "I think a lot of consumers like the idea of buying less and buying better, but many are also still pulled in by the allure of new fashions and trends. That is why fast fashion platforms like Shein are still growing."

These two quotes are connected because here you can see an example of a hardworking business man who owns a retail shop, that is ripped off by a company who is stealing his branding and clothing and selling it for significantly cheaper. The quote connected to this man's story shows that other companies are taking advantage of his brand "that possess a distinctive and valuable positioning" and abusing the low entry barriers and cheap prices to attract significantly more customers to whom they can sell unoriginal and insanely cheap, low-quality clothing.

Both quotes are connected because one highlights consumer's assumed desires of purchasing less items at a higher quality and the other is showing how the higher quality part of the fashion industry is growing significantly less to their opponents who are selling cheaper clothing. The affect of social media and ads have caused increased consumerism to companies who sell cheaper and less durable clothing. This is because it is easy to browse and access in the worst way! Hence how the articles are connected as one mentions the 30-40% growth of one company compared to the 6% growth of another.

These two quotes are connected as together they show one of the main ways there is a social impact caused by fast fashion. In other countries that are not the US there are workers rioting and acting out against their workplaces because of terribly low wages (approx. $1,440/yr.). And consumers of these companies with mistreated and distraught workers are most likely unaware that they are contributing to the ability for these cruel businesses to operate. AND it is stated that most people are caring and 'conscious consumers' but they are being allured into fast fashion creating a tough habit to break. It wouldn't be a tough habit to break if more people were educated on the wages of these workers and the conditions they work in.
