This painting at first glance looked to be unfinished, but by looking at it for longer the choice of line and colour took my interest, as I started to experiment with colours I looked back to this painting. The use of a golden brown and sea green worked harmoniously together and I experimented with this idea through my aplication of paint on my canvas.

Texture is a key element in my practise. I want people to touch my work especially where parts of it jut out. The idea of involvement is important to me. I often find that by looking at a painting you distance yourself from the work because you can only look at it. The more our senses are implemented the closer our bond is to the art.

The art above heavily influenced my choice of textural materials. I mainly experimented with what was available to me, things I already had for example, string, tissue, and modelling clay.

I took inspiration from the sporadic application of paint and the effect it had from a distance. I liked how it had the appearance of somebody waving far away, it was inviting you towards it. I tried to implement this illusion with colour and made it seem like the shape of the colour was moving around a focal point.

I found Shemilt from looking into the idea of there being a doppelgänger. The work that most interests me is a short film where Shemilt apply's makeup to the mirror image of her face. The distorting and messy application creates an unusual composition when she removes herself from the mirror.

The arrangement of shapes and colour inspired me to try out a range of colour schemes for some of my works. I found that I was starting to add too much brown into my colours as the outcomes generally looked the same as one another.
Overlapping shapes is another influence you can see in my work, which is in the placement of pieces and how they sit on top and underneath each other. It makes them feel linked.

The painting above influenced my choice of size. Should the drawing fill the page? or should I isolate a specific area to draw in? I thought of these questions when approaching my canvas paintings. I decided the final outcome would be successful if the painting filled the whole canvas.
