The upper class was made up of people who had wealth, and plenty of influence. This class had jobs such as, business owners, industrialists, and other job positions that held a huge amount of wealth, and power. The upper class only got richer, business owners got richer; this allowed the rich build mansions, collect fine art, and erect museums, and libraries.

The middle class was made up of people who had more education, and professional skills. This allowed them to work as merchants, shopkeepers, accountants, managers, and more. The middle class started to grow, due to the bourgeoisie, and the capital class. The bourgeoisie were the owners of factories and businesses, and they were the wealthiest and the most powerful members of the middle class. The middle class were able to take advantage of afforable amenities, along with allowing the working class to lift them into upper class.

The Working Class / Lower Class

The working class was made up of people who worked in factories, and other manual jobs. They often worked long hours, and had little control over their working conditions. The wages from factories were extremely low, and the working conditions were harsh, filthy, and dangerous. The working class was often seen as the lower class, and was excluded from political and social power. Soon, diseases became common, and children couldn't afford to go to school as families swarmed the city seeking for jobs.

Social immobility is the ability of individuals to change positions within a social stratification system. For example, when people improve or diminish their economic status in a way that affects social class, they experience social immobility. Social immobility in early industrialization is the extent to which an individual’s life chances are determined by their starting point in life. Social mobility can be the many ways indicative of equality of opportunity.

The Women In Industrial Revolution

Women's experiences varied depending on their social and economic classes during the Industrial Revolution. Working class women faced difficulty, and dangerous working conditions in factories, where they were paid way less than men. Countless women began to be frustrated with this type of environment, and some even testified in front of the British parliament about the harsh working conditions in factories. Middle-class women were not expected to work outside the home. They were responsible for household duties and child-rearing; they were also expected to adhere to the "cult of domesticity." The cult of domesticity was used to justify the unequal treatment of women in society, and it shaped the social norms and expectations of women during the Industrial Revolution.

The Trend of Urbanization

During the Industrial Revolution, many families fled the countryside and moved to the city to work in factories. This had a vast impact on the way people lived, and the way cities were structured and functioned. Industrialization led to overcrowded, polluted urban centers which were prone to diseases. The poor, working class, who moved to the cities lived in unsanitary, dirty tenement buildings, where they were given poor water and a lack of basic amenities. These conditions led to the spread of diseases, and several health problems. In comparison, the wealthier families who lived in the city had much more enjoyable living conditions and more leisure opportunities. They were able to get their hands on cleaner, safer houses, and had access to better healthcare and other amenities. This tends to show the shocking difference between the rich and the poor that characterized the Industrial Revolution.
