Jonathan Kozol is a former teacher who proceeded on to writing books about his experiences of being a teacher in a segregated school. He was famous for bringing light to unknown/undiscussed issues in education, such as unequal schools, segregation, homelessness, and illiteracy. His books were one of the first to show first hand experiences of these issues in the education system. In one of his later books he brought light on issues of rave and poverty in inner cities. He may have not changed anything officially but he opened many American’s eyes to what was and is going on in the education system.

John Hope Franklin is one of the most important scholars of the 20th century. He was president of three professional organizations (AHA, OAH, SHA) and wrote well known pieces of work such as "From Slavery to Freedom: A History of African Americans in 1947." He also paved the way to start the discipline of African American Studies. He held positions at instituions such as NYU, Harvard, Cambridge and Duke Law School. He was involved in cases like Brown vs. Board and was active in the civil rights movement. He lived through a lot of history. Espcially being an African American all through out the 1900's. From being poor and not going to real school, to living through the civil rights movement and desegragation of schools to seeing the first black president. Although, he did not influence education directly, his work and leadership had an effect on education today.

Difference between Paulo is that Paulo directly effected education unlike John and Jonathon. John Hope Franklin down the line eventually effected education from how he started African American Studies and how important history was to him. He also was involved with cases like Brown vs. Board, which later on effected education. Paulo directly effected education in another way, he started to talk about the importance of dialogue and teaching curriculum. Difference between Jonathan Kozol is that he is still alive and was a teacher in public school. Kazol is known more for this books on education than anyone else in our group. John Hope Franklin was more involved with African American History and was more of a leader compared to Freire and Kozol.

Paulo Freire was someone who changed the world of education based off of his personal experience and understandings of individuals. He showed the importance of dialogue and how to use it in a way that would benefit everyone. Working together and blending thoughts to teach the curriculum rather than learning by one teaching is another way for us to learn and maintain respect at the same time. His idea of praxis allowed for individuals to grow beyond just understanding information, and his 'pedagogy of the oppressed’ gave voiceless people a voice. He felt strongly about giving everyone the ability of equal opportunity. He has overall helped our education system evolve by helping the curriculum become stronger and allowing for more students to have the ability to get the proper education.
