2. Were your goals accomplished? If so, what was the result of your support? If not, what got in the way and how could you avoid this in the future?

The goals that were discussed in reflection question #1 were accomplish with fidelity. The day was chunked out to allot for enough time to follow-up with administration prior to the day as well as at the end of the day. I noted that having communication in place prior to the CS visit is helpful in keeping with the goal setting expectations and agenda for that day. Although the CS was not able to meet immediately with the principal, the CS already established communication ahead of time and had a list of responsibilities to begin her goals when she arrived.

3. What did you notice about communication among the CS, administration, CRTs, teachers, non-instructional staff members, and students? What was effective? How could you improve the communication between stakeholders?

I immediately noted the positive interactions with staff members and administration first thing in the morning, entering the school and CRT room. We were greeted with a warm a welcome. I also observed that communication between the CS and principal began prior to the visit to establish responsibilities ahead of time. Having that organizational communication piece is effective in a productive day in case administration is not available first thing in the morning. As follow up, the CS sends a school support summary to the administration team summarizing the day's responsibilities, outcomes and suggested feedback. Again, the CS was able to meet with administration before leaving the building, but the follow up correspondence keeps all stakeholders in the communication loop.

4. If you could rate your focus during the visit on a scale from 1-10, where would it fall? What kept you focused? What distracted you from your goals?

Reflecting back on my shadowing day I would rate myself at a clear 10. I was actively engaged in every aspect of the goals set for the day. I was focused because I am eager to learn every element of the CS's responsibilities and value the time of my mentor, Dana. I did not feel I was distracted from any task. If we had a moment of down time I instantly asked for another task or how I could be of help. I learned that time flies when you're busy and to use every minute responsibly.

I truly feel that the most rewarding aspect of the visit was noting the differences and similarities between the school I was visiting and my own school. I appreciate the time I have being mentored under a knowledgeable principal and the work relationships I have built over the past 5 years. I realized that both school have very similar issues and concerns with teachers, turnover, class management and data analysis. That is something that is not just happening at my school, but school across the state. This will enable me to pull together professional development suggestions for others in our network.

The most challenging aspect of the visit was not knowing the personalities of each teacher or administration member for approachability. I feel that connection is important Representing myself, professionally, and presentation of feedback is different for everyone, so understanding how to approach others is valuable in effective and positive communication.

7. What are the priorities for the CRT(s)? How would you support them as the CS with these priorities?

The priorities for the CRT during my observation day today were facilitating grade level PLCs. In response to support I would request the agenda and look for purposeful content that is aligned to an incentive or focus area need for the teachers. I would look for where the CRTs are requesting follow up, how the content is being implemented in their classroom, lesson plans or data analysis from their teachers. Are they leaving with an exit ticket, diary mapping in their plans or creating a tracker or plan that the CRT would follow up on in the coming week. Providing the CRTs with immediate feedback on their upcoming PLS and follow up would encourage participation and quality content to the staff.

Following up on my next visit would be important in goal setting expectations. The follow up would include the aspects and elements noted today. I would follow up on the teacher tiering support, followed by the IFP plan implementation. Are teachers getting the support they need in behavior or instructional strategies. A walk through for the two teachers observed would be imperative to see if progress or growth is evident. At that point modifications could be made and next step action steps. Checking in with CRTs and their responsibilities would be an item of interest to observe. I would be looking for time management and leadership roles as well as follow up on purposeful content.
