One event that shows Dallys motivation is when Johnny dies Dally freaks out and commits suicide because he has no more motivation. Like when he, “ Whirl[ed] suddenly, [and] slammed back against the wall. One example is when he got mad that Johnny died he robbed a store then got himself killed. After Dally called Ponyboy, Ponyboy then told the gang that,"It was Dally. He phoned from a booth. He's, just robbed a grocery store and the cops are after him. We gotta hide him. He'll be at the lot in a minute" (130). He is also a dynamic character.  He became really depressed and gave up on life when Johnny died.
