         <description><![CDATA[<div>Homwork on 7/8/2020<br>Why an object placed in a water appeared to be raised?<br><br>       When an <strong>object</strong> is under the <strong>water</strong> then due to refraction of light through the <strong>water</strong> medium a virtual image of the <strong>object</strong> is produced nearer to the <strong>water</strong> surface and since the image is virtual so it <strong>appears to be raised</strong> by some height above the surface of <strong>water<br><br>It happens due to the, phenomenon of refraction of light. When the rays of light from the coin, in the denser medium, fall on the interface separating the two media, the rays of light move away from the normal after refraction. The point from which the refracted rays appear to come gives the apparent position of the coin. As the rays appear to come from a point above the coin, therefore, the coin seems to be raised.<br><br><br></strong><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Real and apparent depth:<br></strong>An object placed in a denser medium when viewed from a rarer medium appears to be at a depth lesser than its real depth. This is because of refraction of light.<br><strong>Example:</strong><br>Picture shows the difference between the real depth and apparent depth of the object under water. We see the objects closer than their real depth to the surface. We see objects only if the rays coming from them reaches our eyes. In this picture, ray coming from the fish reaches the observer’s eye after refraction. Thus, observer sees the image of the fish at the distance Da from the surface which is the apparent depth of the fish. On the contrary fish sees the objects away from their real distances. Apparent depth in a medium is the depth of an object in a denser medium as seen from the rarer medium.          <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Activity on Real and Apparent depth.<br></strong>I submerged a pencil in a glass of water and made the following observation :</div><ul><li>The pencil appeared to be in a raised position than its original point. It also looked slightly bent.</li></ul><div>From this observation and theoretical thinking, we can conclude that :</div><ul><li>This raised and bent position is because of refraction of light from water (denser medium) to air (rarer medium).</li><li>The ray of light from the point travels in water and after refraction, bends away form the virtual normal line and appear to be coming from a different point.</li><li>The image we see is virtual and not real.</li></ul>]]></description>

However, the 240 volt residential service in US is in the form of two 120 volt conductors and a neutral conductor. When a load is applied from either 120 volt conductor to the neutral, it is using 120 volts.However, when a load is applied from one 120 volt conductor to the other, without using the neutral, the voltage being used is the sum of both 120 volt conductors (240 volts). So, the essential difference lies in the receptacles of the two systems. One common reason is that low voltages tend to be safer. Higher voltage is somewhat more dangerous if there is a short circuit or if they are accidentally touched. Some experienced electricians are relatively casual about touching 110 V circuits, but 230 V is highly respected.<br></mark></strong><br></div>]]></description>

We might get an electric shock from the live wire if there is a fault in any electrical appliance, but no more if the wires are already earthed to the ground. <br><br>When the live wire is earthed, the current passes to the ground instead of passing through whomever touches it.</div>]]></description>

Of course, the amount of electricity it uses depends on how long it’s on for, and this is measured in kilowatt-hours (kWh).<br><br>Electricity is sold by the kilowatt-hour (kWh) – usually referred to as ‘units’ on your electricity bill. We’ve done some of the work for you, but if you’re feeling mathematical you can work out how much your own appliances cost to run by multiplying their wattage by the amount of time they’re on and then by the cost of electricity per kWh. So let’s say you have a 500W (0.5 kW) dehumidifier and you run it for a whole day (24 hours). It will use 12kWh of electricity (e.g. half a kilowatt every hour). If your electricity costs 15p per unit, then multiply 12kWh by 15p and you get a grand total of 180p, or £1.80. This is what it costs to run the dehumidifier all day, and you can see how appliances can add a lot to your bills.<br><br></div>]]></description>
