In this poem by Maya Angelou she talks about the breaking down of traditions and set paths that previous ancestors laid before them .She says "BECAUSE we have banished the God of our ancestors, our children cannot pray." This piece is only part of the explained misfortunes. To wrap the poem up she proposes a pledge to care of her people and help others in need.

This story by Langston Hughes emphasises the behavior towards African Americans. Throughout this short story the two main people are nice to their servant. They hire a younger boy to work for them, he tends to their small garden. His job also includes being an inspiration to new music from the husband and the wife paints portraits of him. She calls the uncompleted painting "Slave on the the block." The husbands mother comes to stay in the home and is not nearly as fond as they are to African Americans. The hired boy approaches the woman to ask how long shed be saying and she replies with "I never liked familiar Negroes". The reply only further angered her and ended with both servants leaving due to them claiming they've stood enough foolery.

The N Word

Today there is a big debate on who can use the n-word and when. Since the n-word is used in rap music so much, many non-black people are starting to think it's okay to say it. Since the word is also used as an alternate form of "dude" by some black people, everyone thinks they can say it now. It seems that most people forget that harmful origins and use of the word, and the concept of reclamation. The essential question asks if we think that our society has gone backwards or forwards since Huckleberry Finn's publication. In terms of the n word, I think we've gone both forwards and backwards. Purely hateful use of the word, while still around, has declined, but at the same time, people who can't say the word now think they're entitled to it simply because of reasons like "slavery is over" or "black people say it too".

When The Irish Weren't White

This article tries to state that race is a social construct, and that whiteness isn't real, simply because the Irish were once oppressed. However, this article doesn't talk about xenophobia or Irish stereotypes outside of quotes. The Irish weren't oppressed because they're white, they were oppressed because of xenophobia and microaggressions tied in with harmful stereotypes of them being dirty drunks. If you lived in that time period and were one of the people dumb enough to believe stereotypes apply to every person, you probably wouldn't want Irish people in your country either. Again, it had nothing to do with race, and race is obviously not a social construct.
