The Industrial Revolution had a big impact on farmers. Advancements in farming equipment made farmers work easier and allowed them to harvest more crops. Having new equipment and improved livestock breeding led to an increase in food production. It allowed a spike in population and increased health. The new farming techniques also led to an enclosure movement.

Main Idea: Rural to Urban

Before the Industrial Revolution people lived in rural environments but after the Industrial Revolution people began to live in Urban environments. A reason people moved to urban areas is because rural houses were cheaply built and overcrowded housing. Another cause is the industrial pollution. And the last cause is terrible sanitation.

New Vocab Word: Monopoly

A monopoly is when a company or individual has total control over an entire industry. The great economic power that monopolies hold has also had positive consequences for the United States. The benefits of having a monopoly like Standard Oil in the country was only realized after it had built a nationwide infrastructure that no longer depended on trains. The last great American monopolies were created a century apart, and one lasted over a century.

An interesting thing I learned about the industrial revolution is that the U.S was a good fit for the industrialization. We are a good fit because we have an abundance of national resources and we had a great spirit of invention. Another reason we are a good fit because we had a growing population/labor force. The last reason is our government was laissez faire ("hands off").
