Mimi, Jenna, Angelina,

Reminding language is such an important concept to use in the classroom. As a preschool teacher, I am constantly using reminding language and I find that reminding language helps my students to remember the task for themselves. One point that stuck out to me in your presentation was “What will it look like/sound like/ feel like when you sit on the rug for morning meeting”. I use that as reminding language on a daily basis and find that the student actually do want to show me they know what to do. I also do a lot of interactive modeling in my preschool classroom, modeling for the students and then having them practice it makes it fun and interactive at the same time of setting those clear expectations. Great Job!

Aidan and Jason,

Parent communication is in my opinion one of the most important and complicated parts of being a teacher. As a preschool teacher, I have had to have parent communication in many different formats and many conversations that are both fun and uplifting and others that are uncomfortable. One aspect of your presentation that I can relate to reaching out early to parents. I find that reaching out early to parents helps to build a relationship that is positive and has communication that is more open. I also find that communicating small things to parents such as a picture of their child completing an activity goes a long way. It shows the parent that you are interested in sharing/building that positive relationship. This is a great presentation with great information!

Rachael and Bailey,

Homework can be a tricky policy when it comes to school and being a classroom teacher, some teachers and parents feel it is effective while others do not. One great point I like that you talked about is differentiation and homework. Many times when teachers give, homework they give the same assignment to every student and sometimes that does not work for all students. I also like that you bought to attention homework bingo, I have never heard of homework bingo but think that it will be an effective way for students to want to complete their homework. Great job on your presentation!

Marisa and Molly,

As a preschool teacher, I currently give out small homework tasks such as practicing their names or having an adult read them a story but as students get older homework should become a review of what they learned in class. I like how you incorporated the positive and negatives to homework assignments, I believe that both parents and teachers have different views of homework that can reflect on why the student completes the homework or not. When reading the effective ways to assign homework, one thing that stuck out to me is that not completing homework should not result in punishment. I completely agree with this, as both a parent and a teacher I understand when there are times homework cannot be completed in that period, but that is a very important reason why a homework policy needs to be put in place. Great presentation!
