He didn't know what to do with out them, he felt sad and weak.

~When Salva's uncle came he felt a lot better because he had someone he knew so he was safe and stronger.

~Salva was stronger when he had the help from his "family" back in New York, when he came up with a plan on how to help his mom and dad and siblings.

~When Salva's uncle came to join the group, he treated everyone with respect he didn't favor Salva because he was his nephew. He treated everyone the same.

But then he started moving on and being with a group and living in the moment, even though he missed his family he didn't sit there and mourn.

~When Salva was walking through the desert and stub his toe, his uncle kept giving him little items to walk to, and that's what kept him in the moment. He didn't worry about the future or the past, he focused on taking one day at a time.

~When Salva got older, he had to start leading the group himself. So Salva took the opportunity to prove them wrong.

~When his uncle left the group though he would become whiny again. But he wasn't, he worked really hard and still kept moving along. The group wouldn't share any food with him, so he had to beg and survive on his own but the groups "bullying" made him stronger.
