The melodies on several of the songs on The Slow Rush have a "multi-level dimensionality" that can hide the "internal turbulence, doubt, and emotional complexity lurking in the words" because they "dwell in a sweet, idyllic late-afternoon mood.

The concept of this EP is essentially a 'songs of my life' project.

I'm looking to create tracks that are inspired by artists that are most prominent in my life, spanning from my childhood to where I am today. I want to use elements of a handful of genres to create my soundtrack as a reflection of my growth as a person and as a musician.

With that, I plan to incorporate elements of rock, pop, R&B, funk and soul into the EP. As a drummer, I resonate with artists such as these as they are very rhythmic-heavy, complemented with catchy and infectious melodies that sticks with the listeners.

Their songs also tends to have a great focus on drums, having a strong pattern and distinct sound. I understand that it is also important to have a cohesive, thematic story to my EP, and so I will look to collaborate with other fellow musicians and songwriters to help me in my shortcomings.

Houston we have a song! 🤣

Good progress from the initial demo; I'm liking where the song is headed (except for that abrupt ending 😤).

(1) Glad that the chipmunk is gone. I hope you will be able to work with your chosen vocalist to develop a nice melody and hook!

(2) The transition (0:48-0:57) is quite OK, but the rapid bass that comes after (0:57) is sounding quite awkward/sudden. I suspect it's because the groove that was established by the bass before this section went into sudden death mode 💀

My suggestion is to retain the bass pattern / rhythmic elements of the bass groove that you had going on before to be included in the transition (0:48). Hopefully by retaining elements of the groove it will lead better into the 0:57 section (which currently sounds quite random). The vocals will be very important at this section too - so it's crucial to experiment with different vocal transitions to find what is best suited for the song.

If it helps, I suggest making an appointment to see me. Do bring your work along so that we could listen to the song together and brainstorm developments for this song!

https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/CreativeProjectScheduling@sunway.edu.my/bookings/

started this song by creating the straight 8ths key progression, then looked for other ep samples from slice in the same key so I found the first EP that you hear in the start. developed the bassline and drums from samples also. It's a little more close to that pop/psychedelic approach, but I'm not entirely happy with the sounds used yet so I'll develop that more.. :d

I'm still just making demos and not really moving forward much with the other two..

but I made this recently after watching back how Ludwig produced Gambino's Redbone, so I wanted to make something with that vibe and I'm really happy with this and feel more excited about it than the previous demo. I actually made it in the same project because I was using the same key lol.

I've already shared this with my vocalist Arif and he's had some ideas already to write around the song and title I put.

I also considered having female vocals and it would turn to be have that indie/r&b sound, something like Kali Uchis or Men I Trust.

Also structure wise!! I put this together in the span of like 3-4 days and I'm not finalized on the sections yet, except the main chorus/hook. But for now, I’ll be working with this rough structure first - once there is a melody and lyrics, it would (hopefully) be easier to create something around that.
