No congruence between values and HR operations. Values state doing the right thing and being a good employer and member of the community, whereas practices were driving down wages, ignoring the well-being of staff in order to increase their bottom line. Walmart realise medical insurance is very important for staff but despite this, charge huge amounts which they know staff cannot afford and instead recommend them to use state programmes rather than adjusting employees pay or the cost of their programme.

Walmart claimed in their recruitment and their adverts that they are good corporate citizens however Walmart were violating environmental factors in their area by causing pollution and leaving harmful substances that caused the drinking water to be polluted for the community. They also claimed they were charitable and provided education and good employment to workers however they did not provide sufficient health care, pay or incentives for workers. This means that they were going against their values of caring for the community and caring for their employees and this proving they were not a good corporate citizen.

Higher management claim they are looking after employees/doing whats best for communities and the environment but all actions say otherwise.

They consistently found ways to hide their wrongdoings, e.g. claiming 75% employees work full-time but not highlighting the caveat that to them full-time = 28 hours a week.

Staff were not paid for overtime with store management shown how to hide these hours. Factory workers treated horrendously, Walmart set the standard for other factories also and so negative affects were felt across the industry.

Employees are asked to work off the clock in which they don't get paid for any overtime they do. This contradicts with what the senior manager said about how their policy is to make sure employees get paid for every hour they work. Therefore, this shows how the actual HR operations in WALMART does not align with its values.

Through fear of possibly being fired and easily replaced, employees still do overtime despite them knowing they will not be paid for their extra services.

This demonstrates how unfairly paid employees are within WALMART and is why they have lawsuits in 31 different states over hourly wages.
