Ironically however, da Vinci never attended a public school when he lived with his father as a child. When the artist was 15, he traveled to Florence, Italy to join a studio, and later was a part of the guild of St. Luke. After several years there, Leonardo became an independent artist in his studio, remaining in Florence. He sadly passed away on May 2, 1519.
