Gross is a Canadian and has created and patented many communication devices. So, in a way, he was both an inventor and an innovator. He was a pioneer in wireless communication work and was one of the best. After the creation of the walkie talkie in 1937, he innovated it and made it better in 1938. In 1948, he further innovated this and made it into a two way radio communication system for WWII. This is beneficial for us because it has truly aided the US army in the war. In 1955 he went on to research a way to create better batteries that last longer and are more efficient and are not as dangerous as carbon zinc, which was the longest lasting battery and most used at that time. He already invented the small alkaline battery that you see in watches or little toys in 1949. But in 1957 he was the first ever to create a big or regular sized alkaline battery that could last 5-8 times longer than a carbon zinc battery. These batteries are still used in cars, toys, and remotes today. He later reinvented the alkaline battery in the 80's that lasts 80 times longer than the prototype he created in 57. He also created the lithium battery that is one of the first batteries to ever be rechargeable, one of the safest batteries to use today, and it also lasts longer than alkaline batteries. These lithium batteries are used in laptops, phones, and cameras. Lewis Urry impacted all of us by creating two of the most used and known batteries today.
