This was absolutely something that I experienced in my own education both positively and negatively.  The advantages to advanced students for doing this are not as great as we think but the disadvantages for the majority of students are significant.

I guess that's pretty obvious or else it would easily stop, but I hadn’t considered quite how it helps people, I just focused on how it harms people. It makes it more difficult to stop because it is helping those in power.
