Dentro de esta vivía el maestro con su familia y los aprendices. En ocasiones, también hospedaban los oficiales, pero sólo si no tenían otro lugar en donde quedarse.

La estructura del edificio era la siguiente: en el primer pisp a se situaban el taller y la tienda y en los pisos superiores estaban las habitaciones y la despensa. En la imagen se puede obserbar un poco más este aspecto.

De esta forma, lo que se conseguía era componer más rápido las páginas y reutilizar los moldes para componer otras. uno de sus trabajos más destacados es el conocido como la Biblia de 42 líneas, debido a que fue el primer libro impreso con tipografía móvil.
