         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp;Mexico claimed the Nueces River as its northeastern border, while the U.S. claimed the Rio Grande River, and the day that both troops met at the Rio Grande. When they met at the River Mexico had open fire and it began from there.<br>The war began in 1845.<br>John C. Fremont lad an American military exploration party into California, violating Mexico's&nbsp; territory. At first President Jefferson didn't know rather or not he had the power to make such a purchase. In the end he bought the territory for $15 million dollars. It affected the US by doubling the the size of the United States.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In 1830 Congress, with the support of Jackson, passed the Indian Removal Act. With this law, the federal government gave money to negotiate treaties that would force the Native Americans to move west. Many from the Cherokee Nation refused and fought the government in the courts. In the fall of 1838, the Cherokee people were sent off in groups of about 1,000 each on a 800-mile journey.The Cherokee buried more than a quarter of their people along what became to be known as the Trial of Tears.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The gold rush started on January 24,1848 by James Marshall a foreman working for Sacramento Pioneer John Sutter found a shiny metal in a trail race of a lumber mil. About three quarters of male population from San Francisco left to go looking for gold. The first migrants to arrive were by boat from Oregon,Hawaii,Mexico and Chile and many more. That's when the Gold Fever started. <br>After the gold rush the population was about 380,000 people from everywhere.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>The first large wagon train of pioneers bound for Oregon was in 1843.Oxen were used because they could pull heavy loads. Oxen could survive on eating the grass along the way. Oxen didn't cost as much as mules.traders for many years and had traveled the Oregon Trail many times. In some wagon trains, all the members voted to have one person be the captain or leader.</div>]]></description>
