He began to march toward the city of Tenochtitlan. In the article titled ¨History Alive! 2011¨ it states when the Spanish explorers arrived in Tenochtitlan in 1519, they where amazed to see a majestic city crisscrossed by canals and boasting impressive temples and palaces.   In the article titled ¨Aztec Empire Spanish Conquest¨ it states when he arrived he was greeted with gifts and invited inside. Later though tension was higher than ever and a fight broke out. Cortes took king Montezuma captive. this could have been avoided if they did not have suspicion that Cortes may be a god. Later, Montezuma was killed. Historians are not sure how he died or why he died but after he was dead the Spanish soldiers fled Tenochtitlan but did not make it and where attacked by the Aztecs. Nearly two-thirds of the soldiers where killed.
