1st Rehearsal

So far, the four of us have only had one rehearsal due to two members of the band being needed/used in other performances. We have managed one though and it went swimmingly. Having already written, practiced and played the song, three of us knew it and needed to do little work. All we had to do was teach Nathan the bassline and as he's a competent player, this didn't take long. A few times through the song, which is called It's Not All My Fault, and that was the rehearsal over. On the agenda for the weeks to come is to practice and play Take Me Back, another original.

In this song I play lead guitar and should be on backing vocals too but the timings of the vocal line and my riff are too difficult for me to do without extensive practice. My part is very riff heavy, playing no chords at all, accentuated by the bass that plays the same riff behind the guitar. The genre is difficult to define but I'd call it riff heavy funk without all the brass instruments. Played with a fuzz pedal and a wah-wah.

This rehearsal ended in the choice to drop Take Me Back from the setlist. Seeing as this is Megs song we sort of let her take the lead and tell us what to do; show us the way. Joel and I already knew this song and have played it with Meg quite a few times prior to this rehearsal so it started to go slightly awry. Not awry as such, we were just playing it differently to how we usually play it. I think this was subliminally due to the fact that Meg was and still is undecided on how she really wants the song to sound, so the lesson turned to a jam and we were pretty happy to do so to.
To combat this next time, conversations need to be had before the sessions about agendas and shit like that.
