The letter was written after Dr. King read in the newspaper that his actions were "unwise and untimely".  The letter is 49 long paragraphs of him defending his argument, that the white men were wrong.

He also says that they postponed the same event two to three more times before going through with the plan. Dr. King believed that violence wasn't the way to have something changed which is why on several occasions he would postpone.

In the letter from Birmingham jail, Dr. King says "I must honestly reiterate that I have been disappointed with the church" (King 34). He was disappointed that the church wasn't as consistent and welcoming to the African Americans as he wanted them to be.

Dr. King told the public that he had a dream that one day, they would be successful and that he could, one day tell his child that they could indeed go to the new carnival advertised on the television, and that he wouldn't have to explain why some people are so mean to people of color. He had a dream that everyone from the west to the east coast would be free and that the Constitution and Declaration of Independence would be effective to everyone in the United States.

At the time the buses were still very heavily segregated and whites were to sit in the front and blacks in the back. This story is about how a white family who was sitting to the three-quarters to the back of the bus and when the bus driver asked them to move they refused. That family would travel New York all the way to Virginia in that spot.

The African Americans would continue to do this without stop, so the city officials negotiated with them; and a peace would be formed. African Americans would learn about what happened and it caused more people to try the same strategies.
