Perfect for STEM education and Industrial Technology subjects, Tinkercad supports creativity, problem-solving, and design thinking, and can be accessed from any device, making it a valuable resource for schools and classrooms.

I selected Tinkercad as the core digital tool for my Year 9 mini-unit focused on designing a sustainable phone stand because it is visually intuitive, beginner-friendly, and aligns well with constructivist, inquiry-based learning.

It enhances learning by:

-promoting active, hands on learning (creating 3D models)

-allowing students to engage in trial and error

-builds creative and critical thinking (solving problems and creating solutions by designing a functional phone stand)

-supporting visual understanding (see their designs in 3D)

-encouraging collaboration and justifying their thinking

-strengthens digital fluency and students become familiar with CAD tools

Lesson Integration:

Lesson 2

-Students are introduced to Tinkercad

-Teacher demonstrates key features

-Students begin creating their first digital prototypes of their phone stand designs

-Designs are shared on Padlet for peer feedback

Lesson 3-4

-Students revise their Tinkercad models based on feedback

It is a simple, engaging and reliable learning platform that can support every student and learner at every stage of their learning journey. It is used by multiple teachers at my current school. They use it to upload assessment tasks, resources, notes, tasks and activities. Students can access from home so if they are away they are still able to complete set work.

Best of all, your notebooks are stored in the cloud, so you can access them anytime from any of your mobile devices. This resource is used at my current school as place to record student data among staff and some senior classes also use OneNote as an online classroom, with tasks, documents and notes all found in the one place.

How OneNote will be used in my Mini Unit

OneNote will house unit overview, lesson resources, instructions, and links to tools like Tinkercad and Padlet. It will be used as a central platform for students to maintain a digital design journal, where they document research, design ideas, reflections, and teacher feedback throughout the mini-unit.
