This chapter looks at famous director Tim Burton who is known for making many films with fairy tale motifs. Through this chapter, however, it explores the less obvious ways that some of his films have played with this particular genre and also how he has merged multiple genres, mainly horror, in the past.

Through this research, I have acquired various examples of fairy tale films with stylistic choices akin to the horror genre. As well, I have looked at both motifs of fairy tale and horror films. Many of these excerpts analyze how the horror genre is deemed scary due to specific characteristics that are clearly evident in fairy tales. Through these characteristics it is evident that both fairy tales and horror deals with similar content and the main difference lays in how they are presented to audiences. Due to this, it is extremely easy to merge the genres.

I am still hoping to look more into how horror has been used in fairy tales in the past and how that has evolved. It is very easy to find how horror has evolved in film and how fairy tales have evolved in film separately. However, I wish to look at how these two genres have evolved in film together and the reasoning behind making fairy tales scary. I am hoping to take out the book entitled 'Fairytale and gothic horror : uncanny transformations in film' from Scott Library. I am confident that through reading this material, I will gain a deeper understanding of the evolution of these genres together that will allow me to fully comprehend the frequent usage of horror themes in fairy tale film adaptations.
