Avoid giving too many worksheets and actually give students time to read. If they have to fill out a worksheet for everything they read, they will spend more time answering meaningless questions rather than reading and digesting the book they have.

Engage in conversation.

Create a great reading environment. Invest in getting bean bags or having a corner devoted to the reading nook. Create a safe place where students feel comfortable and even getting excited to read. We want our students to get excited about reading, and see reading for what it is for us as adults, something we enjoy because of the emotions we get out of it.
