Who founded the organization? MSF was founded by a small group of doctors in 1971. They were working in Biafra (South tip of Nigeria, it is no longer a country). They wanted to provide, fast, effective aid to health emergencies without the help of any other influences, like the government.

Who runs/works for the organization? Medical professionals (anesthesiologists, midwives, physicians, etc.), and support Professionals (financial managers, water and sanitation specialists, etc.) are a big portion of MSF's employees.

What is their objective/mission? The mission of MSF is to provide aid to people who have been affected by natural (or man-made) disasters and armed conflict.

What strategies/programs/projects are they using to meet this objective? MSF has a lot of different projects that they're working on. These include:

Vaccination campaigns
Improving water and sanitation
Therapeutic food for malnutrition crisis
Patient care
Maternal and pediatric care
Distribution of drugs and medical supplies
Mental health care
Rehablitation of hospitals and clinics
HIV/AIDS care and prevention
And more!

Why are these strategies effective or ineffective? These strategies are effective beacause they focus a lot on prevention. However, you can't prevent everything so they also have programs that are centred around the after effects of natural disasters.

How is this organization funded? MSF is funded by the general public because they want to remain independent from the government. A minimum of 80% of all donations go towards funding for it's progams.

How can you get involved? You can get involved with MSF by donating money, (either out of your own pocket, or moeny that you raised by fundraising specifically for MSF), aeroplan miles, by volunteering, or by working with them over seas.

Who founded the organization? In 1896, Dr. George Sterling Ryerson was granted permission by the Brittish Red Cross to bring this organization to Canada .

Who runs/works for this organization? Conrad Sauvé runs the Canadian Red Cross. Under is direction, 25 000 volunteers work to help others around the world.

What is their objective/mission? "The Canadian Red Cross mission is to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity in Canada and around the world."

What strategies/programs/projects are they using to meet this objective? The Red Cross has a lot of different programs and projects including:

First aid and CPR
Community health services in Canada
Violence, bullying, and abuse prevention

Migrant and refugee services

Why are these strategies effective or ineffective? These programs are effective because they reunite many families and continue to change the lives of people that are in desperate need of help.

How is this organization funded? The Red Cross is funded partly by the government, partly from corporate sponsors, and from donations given to the Red Cross from volunteers and supporters.

How can you get involved? You can volunteer with the Red Cross in Canada and over seas by signing up with one of the programs and projects. Donating your time is as valuable as donating your money. Join the other 25,000 volunteers that change people's lives every day.

WAND (Working Against Natural Disasters)

**Note: We made up this organization. It doesn't actually exist.

Who founded the organization? Adriana and Sarah founded this organization in November 2013.

Who runs/ works for this organization? We (Sarah and Adriana) run/manage it. Our friends, family, and community volunteers also work with us.

What is their objective/mission? Our mission is to provide aid (food, water and health care) to countries going through a natural disaster. We want to rebuild schools and homes that have been destroyed during hurricanes, tornados, typhoons, etc.

What strategies/programs/projects are they using to meet this objective? Our programs include:

Temporary housing
Making blankets (fair trade deals)
Food Shelters (soup kitchens)

Why are these strategies effective or inaffective? These strategies are effective because they focus both on short term and long term rehabilitaion from natural disasters. They have no housing after being hit with a natural disaster, nor do they have food that isn't soggy.

How is this organization funded? We are funded by donations, sponsers, and fundraising. We are not funded by the government so we can get to affected contries faster.

How can you get involved? You can become part of a team that goes over-seas to carry out our plans to help people. You could also become a sponser, make blankets that will be sent to affected countries, or be part of our planning team.
