Fitzgerald has for decades been hailed as the author of one of the Great American novels, the Great Gatsby, which shows the recognition he's received for his prose.
But when you dig a little deeper, it is in the perfectly embedded metaphors and dreamy imagery that characterises his stories that is the real reason why his style of writing is worth emulation; there are few that are able to juggle both a strong plot and a powerful writing style as Fitzgerald does. His stories are not only stories but serve as a parable of important themes, mainly the quest for the American Dream, wealth, status quo and the whims of young people.

Use the syntax to create a bitter and cynical mood by associating irregular adjectives to objects (adjectives not normally associated with certain things like 'huge incoherent failure of a house'). Keep the tone foreboding and nostalgic.
2. Keep your sentences long and rambling, use flamboyant diction, and embed larger-than-life realisations/epiphanies in them, the same way Nick transcends from simple observations to judgements over dreams.
3. Use irregular punctuation such as ellipses and hyphens to dramatize the effect of the sentence, e.g hyphens for interruptions, cliffhangers, and ellipses for the perpetual struggle towards achieving the American Dream
