In “Anabel Lee” more emotions are evoked due to Length, Writing Style and the topic

• The Red Wheelbarrow: after several rereads: image of the author looking at the image, idyllic scenery; overwhelmed with responsibilities, alone in a field, lonely; immediate beauty in mundane moments

• Annabel Lee: dark little story (positive); not a relatable experience, more difficult to create personal connection, feels more fictional/older; smoother reading experience

• very different readings of The Red Wheelbarrow: gaps in the poem filled in differently/more space for personal associations

The Red Wheelbarrow: it feels weird. It is hard to understand the meaning. One has to re-read it to somehow guess a meaning.

• I felt frustrated by the red wheel barrow since I felt the deeper meaning of this very short poem was just nowhere to be found. I just could not fathom its meaning.

  The lack of detail and narrative leaves too much space for thoughts and makes the actual meaning of the poem pliable to thought. This poem had left me feeling empty.

• On the other hand I was a lot more comfortable with reading the poem Annabelle Lee since it had more detail which made the image drawn by the poem more understandable. It has a narrative that guides me to a possible understanding of the poems meaning. This poem has made me feel invested and inspired.

• Both poems have a structure with the difference being that Annabelle Lee uses an abundance of rhymes and imagery. Further more it is a total different style between those two poems with the red wheelbarrow being free verse.
