I’m a first-generation Chicana and college student, queer, and fronteriza, born/raised in South San Diego, along the U.S.-Mexico border. I’ve lived my life navigating two languages, cultures, and nations. My parents are Mexican immigrants that came to the U.S. with only a 7th and 3rd grade level of education for better life opportunities. I was raised in a low-income household, and English is my second language. Currently, I hold an A.A. in Criminal Justice, a B.A. in Sociology with an emphasis in Law and Society, and a Masters in Latin American Studies. My plan is to return to school for a Ph.D.

📷 The photo above is one I took this summer when my partner and I drove up to Big Sur for some camping. I absolutely love camping and have been doing it since I can remember. Traveling and nature are grounding to me.

My name is Michelle Sanchez, I love coffee and Jesus. I spend a lot of my time reading, going out with girlfriends. The picture of me and the sheep I'm next to is a picture I took at the del mar fair in SD with my family. I got to pet sheep! I love animals. I also have a passion for the unseen in our society like those struggling with drug addiction and the prison system. I am studying sociology and my goal is to be a good drug counselor in rehabilitation centers and help those who are struggling as much as I can. I also study administration of Justice and like to watch crime videos.

The photo that I shared above is a picture of myself and my 4 year old Golden Retriever Marley. I chose to share this photo with the class because one of our favorite things to do is to Go on walks to the beach, hiking, or going surfing ( yes Marley can surf ). Typically when I am not working or working on school work I am out a hike , at the beach, or at Disneyland with my boyfriend. One thing that I found interesting and everyone should be aware of and use in the semester is the Mental Health Services. Not many people have a great support system and Mira Costa does offered some great help.
