*1. Eco-friendly*

- Sea shipping uses a low level of fossil fuels and does have a good impact on the environment. 

*2. No Traffic Jam*

- Even with the busy lifestyle of people nowadays, every person aims for an efficient way of transporting their goods when they need the assistance of shipping deliveries.

*3. Cost –friendly*

- With the low amount of fuel usage in sea freight, the summary of cost is expectedly lower than any kind of delivery service.
Disadvantages of Sea Transport:

*1. Slow speed*

Speed of Inland water transport is very slow and therefore this mode of transport is unsuitable where time is an important factor.

*2. Limited Area of Operation*

It can be used only in a limited area which is served by deep canals and rivers.

*3. Seasonal Character*

Rivers and canals cannot be operated for transportation throughout the year as water may freeze during winter or water level may go very much down during summer.

*4. Unsuitable for Small Business*

Inland water transport by rivers and canals is not suitable for small traders, as it takes normally a longer time to carry goods from one place to another through this form of transport.

Advantages . 

1. High speed 
It is the fast speed means of transport . Pessengers and goods can be transported easily from one place to another. 

2. Minimum cost 
Unlike railways and road transportation, there is no need to spend money on the construction of any track or road, only airports have to be constructed.

3. Easy transport of costly and light goods.
It is quite convenient to send costly and light goods through air transport. 

Disadvantages. 

1. High Cost. 
Air transportation is a costly services. It is operational cost are too high. Middle class and poor people cannot affect its cash.

2. More risks. 
Air transport is expose to accidents. A small mistake can be very dangerous for passengers. 

3. Huge investment. 
The cost of aeroplanes, construction and maintenance of aerodromes and control mechanism needa a capital expenditure.

Disadvantages:

Although railway transport has many advantages, it suffers from certain serious limitations:

1. Huge Capital Outlay:

The railway requires is large investment of capital. The cost of construction, maintenance and overhead expenses are very high as compared to other modes of transport. Moreover, the investments are specific and immobile. In case the traffic is not sufficient, the investments may mean wastage of huge resources.

2. Lack of Flexibility:

Another disadvantage of railway transport is its inflexibility. Its routes and timings cannot be adjusted to individual requirements.

3. Lack of Door to Door Service:

Rail transport cannot provide door to door service as it is tied to a particular track. Intermediate loading or unloading involves greater cost, more wear and tear and wastage of time.

The time and cost of terminal operations are a great disadvantage of rail transport.

4. Monopoly:

As railways require huge capital outlay, they may give rise to monopolies and work against public interest at large. Even if controlled and managed by the government, lack of competition may breed inefficiency and high costs.

5. Unsuitable for Short Distance and Small Loads:

Railway transport is unsuitable and uneconomical for short distance and small traffic of goods.

6. Booking Formalities:

It involves much time and labour in booking and taking delivery of goods through railways as compared to motor transport.

7. No Rural Service:

Because of huge capital requirements and traffic, railways cannot be operated economically in rural areas. Thus, large rural areas have no railway service even today. This causes much inconvenience to the people living in rural areas.

8. Under-utilised Capacity:

The railway must have full load for its ideal and economic operation. As it has a very large carrying capacity, under-utilisation of its capacity, in most of the regions, is a great financial problem and loss to the economy.

9. Centralised Administration:

Being the public utility service railways have monopoly position and as such there is centralised administration.

Definition:
Railway transport occupies a significant role in the transport system of a country because the development of trade, industry and commerce of a country largely depends on the development of railways.

Advantages:

i. It facilitate long distance travel and transport of bulky goods which are not easily transported 
ii. It is a quick and more regular form of transport because it helps in the transportation of goods with speed and certainty.

iii. It helps in the industrialization process of a country by easy transportation of coal and raw-materials at a cheaper rate.

iv. It helps in the quick movement of goods from one place to another at the time of emergencies like famines and scarcity.

v. It encourages mobility of labour ad thereby provides a great scope for employment.

vi. Railway is the safest form of transport. The chances of accidents and breakdown of railways are minimum as compared to other modes of transport. Moreover, the traffic can be protected from the exposure to sun, rain snow etc.

vii. The carrying capacity of the railways is extremely large. Moreover, its capacity is elastic which can easily be increased by adding more wagons.

viii. It is the largest public undertaking in the country. Railways perform many public utility services. Their charges are based on charge what the traffic can bear principles which helps the poor. Pipeline Transportation is the mode of transportation of goods or material through a pipe. Liquids and gases are transported in pipelines and any chemically stable substance can be sent through a pipeline. Pipelines are useful for transporting water for drinking or irrigation over long distances when it needs to move over hills or where canals or channels are poor choices due to considerations of evaporation, pollution, or environmental impact. Pneumatic tubes using compressed air can be used to transport solid capsules.


Advantages :

1.Reduction in cost of transportation is very significant.

2. Supply through pipelines is very reliable. It is free from obstacles in road and rail transport.

3. In case of underground pipelines, the land in which pipeline is laid can still be used for agricultural use.

4. It ensures supply in remote areas where road ways are not very good, also it provides safe and secure supply for defence needs.


Disadvantages :

1. Unlike roads no separate land acquisition is done for pipelines, sometimes it is laid sidewise along the road. Which is not very convenient if it is passing through dense populated areas. Also there is always a risk of damaging pipeline because of road repair and other activities containing excavation.

2. Illegal pilferage and wastage due to leak is a problem in pipelines.

3. Like other big linear structures patrolling and maintenance of pipelines is a huge task.

4. In case of chemicals and petroleum pipelines any leak can cause a accident.

5. In case of petroleum and minerals pipelines, as the pipeline is laid in private owned lands also, compensation is decided by P&MP act 1962. Which contains many points, which are obsolete and not feasible in modern time. Causing problems to both land owners and companies laying pipelines.

Pipelines exist for the transport of crude and refined petroleum, fuels - such as oil, natural gas and biofuels - and other fluids including sewage, slurry,water and beer.
