I remember active learning in the first grade, we were learning about butterflies. My teacher brought in a bunch of caterpillars one for each set of desk and for the next couple of days we got to observe the life cycle of a butterfly. After the butterflies came out from their cocoon we got to release them. When going to the store and seeing these for example 50% off and having to use the math to see the new price allowed for it to click.
