After completing the "Rate Your Bias" activity on AllSides, my results showed that I am in the center. To me, this seems quite accurate considering I agree with both the left and the right at times. Personally, I often time lean more to the right side.

However, bias is everywhere within the media. And it's not always bad, but it's not always good either. Bias can be misleading for many people. I believe it is good to be aware of the biases that surround us as well as our own biases we as individuals hold.

White House blocks reported from Oval Office over 'Gulf of America' Battle, AP says

In the version of the story, the Daily Wire writes, "The Associated Press crafts a stylebook that many newsrooms across the world religiously adhere to — for example, the AP style guide recommends using “gender-affirming care” to describe transgender surgeries, hormones, and puberty blockers, even when discussing minors, and to use the phrase “pregnant people” and “people seeking abortions” to describe women seeking to abort their unborn babies." This shows that this editorial recognizes the normal language stylebook of the AP while pointing out that they have the right to report in the style they choose, which is protected speech, under the First Amendment.

While the AP has the right to report how they wish, it is not the way this White House seems to operate. They barred the AP reporter for refusing to acknowledge the re-naming of the Gulf of Mexico, to the Gulf of America because they share their news with outlets worldwide and the rest of the world may not know what they are referring to. The Daily Wire reached out the White House for a comment but didn't get one.

Trump White House bars Associated Press reporter for a second day. AP signals legal action CNN Business

In this version, they focus on what they feel is going on rather than what is happening. The editorial begins with, "In with President Trump’s newspeak — or else.

That’s the apparent message as the Trump White House tries to punish a preeminent news outlet for its editorial decision-making." The bias here is that they are focusing on the AP reporter being blocked for the second day in a row all because they aren't aligning with what "Trump wants". But that is not the case.

Karoline Leavitt stated in her very first White House Press Briefing that if news outlets didn't report the truth, they would be held accountable. CNN fails to state this fact. The AP believes this is a retalitory measure, when it is being accountable for not reporting what is true. They do not acknowledge that the Gulf of Mexico is now called the Gulf of America via Executive Order from President Trump.

Leavitt defends banning AP from Oval Office over ‘Gulf of America’ stance

In this case, the truth is that the Gulf of Mexico no longer exists. The name for the body of water that is on the coast of Louisiana and other states, is now renamed the Gulf of America. The news is supposed to report the truth and the AP refuses to do so. While they do have the right to free speech, the press has a responsibility to report the truth to the American people, not their version of the truth.

The Trump Administration has the right to include who they feel reports the news most accurately in White House functions, as the AP has been barred from 2 events at the White House (Oval Office Press Briefings), they have not lost their credentials as reporters at the White House Press Briefing Room.

My Closing Thoughts:

Reading this news bit from different views shows how each side sees the subject. While the centre focuses on Leavitt's defence of banning the AP reporter, the left states that the reasoning is retaliatory and if news outlets don't abide by Trump's rules, they get banned. The right explained the way the AP normally describes issues and defended their right to report the news how they see fit.

Some things people can do to not be duped into believing in false information is to watch the press conferences themselves and not depend on outlets that are famous for spreading propaganda like the AP and CNN. They are known to be biased when it comes to anything Trump does. Centre leaning outlets tend to see both sides while pointing out the truth of each matter using facts. The right leaning outlets tend to favor Trump and his decisions, they rarely point out anything he does wrong and they tend to always spin it to make the left look like they are either lying or crazy.

The key is to watch the actual clips for yourself and to make your own decisions as to what they mean or whether it's true or not. The reputations of legacy media have taken major hits over the past 5 years with the way they pushed Covid-19 propaganda and never held the Biden Administration to account for anything bad that they did. They covered up the fact that Biden was losing his mental faculties, they lied to the American people and the rest of the world about the so-called Russia Hoax, they pushed the lie that the Hunter Biden laptop was "Russian disinformation", they sowed hate and division during the George Floyd/BLM riots in Summer of 2020 and many more lies and propaganda. The trust in them has dwindled as a result. This story proves it. President Trump had the Gulf of Mexico renamed, and the AP failed to report the truth on that, and just like Karoline Leavitt said from the podium, "any news outlet that reports lies about this White House will be held accountable." And they were! It's not retaliation, it's not a violation of the First Amendment to want the news to be reported accurately and fairly.
