Using a new learning app for my third language

At first, I was quite sceptical about people claiming that they improved in a few months while using this to learn a language. So, I decided to try it out. This is an app that allows me to communicate with an Ai in a language I am learning, and have a conversation without needing to fly to far just to learn from locals. I have been trying this app out for quite a while already, and I must say during my trip, my communication skills has definitely improved tremendously. And what I liked about this app was that I was able to save vocabulary words that I do not understand and they could teach me and they’ll provide flash cards to test us online. All in all, this was a fun long term SIL and I will still be using this in the long run.

For today's SIL I decided to try video editing. Now I had to problems making this. Firstly, at the start I found it hard to cut the clips and put them on beat but after a while I eventually found it easier. Secondly, when there were too many overlays it would start to lag and drop the quality of the video. That is why in some parts of the video it is quite blurry. Overall I found this to be quite fun and I would look forward to doing it again

today I played the 30th by Billie eilish this is me playing the guitar in fingerstyle I chose this song as to me it's means a lot and it's so fun to play with! This took me about a week to learn it now that I can finally master the intro I feel really happy and my efforts paid off a lot!! While playing this song I encountered some difficulty which was trying to switch chords fast and finding where to position my finger at when playing the songs. Overall I enjoyed playing this song!

I clean my hamsters cage

I learn responsibility from cleaning my hamsters cage and it was quite hard bc I had to keep walking to the bathroom to wash his stuff and walk back. The most frustrating part was the original video was 212 mb and it was too big to be uploaded as the maximum is 20mb. I had to make it smaller and now it's blurry. Overall, it was fun cleaning my hamsters cage.

I started learning Cantonese because I think that it is useful as I can understand better in all those Hong Kong movies and songs. Another reason is that me myself is from Hong Kong and now I’ve forgotten many words, hence I want to learn it back. I think Cantonese is also very expressive and fun to listen to, and learning it can improve my overall Chinese language skills and cultural knowledge. :)

I drew this for sil today as I thought it looked really silly which made it cute, I learned that drawing takes time and patience and that if you rush your drawings you can mess it up. I struggled with the shading as it would come out dark and not match the drawing.

I still wasn't quite sure what to do for my SIL,and also had little time due to needing to practice and polish up before the CCA Carnival(tomorrow),so I took up a relatively easy task:AI Image Generation.

Through this activity,I was able to learn how to be more precise with my wording as in order to generate a proper image,the right prompts and words must be used.It also took a few tries to finally get it right.

Today, i practiced some magic tricks with game cards. A fond memory of mine was whenever i got to watch magicians perform tricks at birthday parties, hence my SIL activity. It was definitely not easy to be as smooth and quick as experienced magicians, but i am pretty content with the progress i made today. I learnt how to do two simple tricks! Not only did i learn a new party trick, but i also had fun. I would definitely recommend this activity to others.

Seaweed Chicken Roll

Today, I learned how to make chicken seaweed roll.

Ingredients ( to make)

2 chicken breasts (cut into thin strips)
Seaweed sheets (nori / roasted seaweed)
1 egg
2 tbsp cornflour
1 tbsp soy sauce
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
Oil (for frying)

Steps ( to make)

Marinate the chicken
Put chicken strips in a bowl. Add soy sauce, pepper, garlic powder, cornflour, and egg. Mix well and let it marinate for 15–20 minutes.
Prepare the seaweed
Cut seaweed sheets into medium rectangles (big enough to wrap chicken).
Roll the chicken
Place 1–2 chicken strips on the seaweed and roll it up tightly.
Fry
Heat oil on medium heat. Fry the rolls until golden brown and crispy (about 3–4 minutes). Turn to cook evenly

The word I wrote today is “天府” which is short for 天府之国 which refers to Sichuan Chengdu, and the city of Chongqing. It was not easy to control the brush strokes and to figure out the proportion of where to write the words.

For today’s SIL, I made a paper box. It’s comprised of 2 separate pieces, with identical dimensions. It’s 10cm by 4 cm. I start by folding the piece in half so that it becomes 10cm by 2cm. Then I follow the measurements on the ruler. Each face of the cube is 2cm by 2cm. So I when I reach the 2cm mark, I fold the paper. After folding all the sides for both pieces, I join each piece together and fit them snugly in place to get the end result.

Today, jeyleng and I went to serangoon stadium to train for Nafa. We timed our speed e.g. 100m, 150m and I did 2.4km to train. My 2.4km was 16 mins which is very bad bc the bare minimum is 14mins and 30 secs. Seeing my timing, ill try to improve on my stamina.

Today i run with olivia and she took my timing i found out that for 100m i was 15.22 sec and my friend,olivia, had 14.54 I find it really fun to run together as we never did something like this before. I enjoyed running as it can train for my NAFA. I struggled with doing the 2.4 which we originally supposed to do at the stadium. I think its because after running my legs were really tired and pain too from my PE lessons. Overall i enjoyed it very much. Credits to the video which Olivia edited!

I tried drawing on the pld. I used a base for this because i am not too confidents in my face and eye drawing skills. I am not done yet i still have to draw on some other things like clothing as well as making it look nicer. Also i think it is not appearing because i used i changed the type to microsoft paint project file when saving, if its not because of that then it might also just a lag thing but idk.(edit: i fixed it :] )

Today, I studied music production and mixing. Music has always been an art form close to my heart. Additionally, my family bonds over music as most of us can either sing, play an instrument, or dance. If i appreciated music so much, why not learn how it is made? I spent my time mixing vocal samples available online and making my own beats. It definitely was not easy as I did not understand some features in the studio, and through this SIL activity, I ended up appreciating music more and learning more about what producing entails. I can proudly say now that I very much admire music producers, producing is no easy feat!

Vlogging partly in Japanese

For this SIL, I tried blogging and trying to text in Japanese but since I had to catch up with school work and tuition work, editing was such a pain and hassle. So, I just showed my morning routine. And overall, this was still quite fun to do! I now know how influencers feel when needing to take videos in edit them. It’s exhausting and draining, not as easy as people think it is which I find really interesting. Anyways, I think this was a fruitful experience, and hope to do this again when I’m more free.

(I cannot upload the video since it more than 20MB, but I would love to share it during the next SIL sharing :) )

For this SIL I decided to make some snacks such as an assortment of mandarin oranges in the shape of a horse and bread with a heart shape jam filling. I found this to be quite simple and yet delicious but it took me some time to shift the jam into the position to look like a heart shape. And I think that the horse shaped assortment is a small but great way to commemorate CNY. I decided to also gift the snacks to my father to show appreciation for what he has done for my family and I.

For this SIL I tried out fishing with a small net, this is something I’d normally would not do as I do not like how many insects there are but this is but I found this rather nostalgic and fun. We managed to get some fish but it was really a struggle to catch them due to the fast speeds they can swim and the algae covering our view of the fish underwater. But at times, we do somehow catch hydrangeas and sea snails and which were interesting to study. Additionally, we came across apple snail eggs which were considered an invasive species in the ecosystem hence me and my sister took a stick and started crushing the eggs since they were so disgusting! In the end, the trip to the reservoir wasn’t so bad and we let go of the fish and especially my toddler cousin, unwillingly. All in all, I don’t think all outdoor activities are that bad anymore and I will be more willing to participate in the future. Oh! And I saw some monkeys on the way back.

So I decided to go to a clothing store to learn about fashion.

On 20 march, I went with my cousin to the National Museum. We went to explore the Once Upon a Tide exhibition together, along with the Singapore Odyssea exhibition. It was mostly for my cousin as her history isn't that great, but we had fun and I managed to revise some things that I have learnt in the classroom and books. :)

I made biscuits today and I learned that baking requires patience and attention to detail. Even small steps, like mixing the ingredients properly or controlling the baking time, can affect the final result. I also realized the importance of not overbaking, as the biscuits can become too hard or burnt. Overall, the experience taught me to be more careful and patient, and it was satisfying to see the finished biscuits after all the effort.

For this SIL, I am learning sign language. Due to the heavy influence of such things like anime that I like, such as “A Silent Voice” and “A Sign of Affection” these animes explain the struggles of deaf people when communicating in their daily lives. The deaf can often be bullied, left out or even misunderstood. So, after watching these, it really touched my heart and since SERVE carnival is coming up, I thought sign language would be a beautiful way to advocate our booth to encourage others to help the deaf and to include them into our society instead of being repulsed by their flaws. I wish to continue practicing so that this skill can one day be of use to others and so as not allow deafness of people affect themselves and their wellbeing. All in all, there is more that we can do for disabled people by doing small basic tasks to make life for them easier.

For today's SIL I didn't really have time to do much but I was able to record the footage for my literature wa2 group project. Some difficulty we faced were that sometimes our group mates wouldn't listen and linchy had to leave early to go somewhere. But we eventually were able to finish recording the footage. In summary I found this quite fun yet frustrating

I've recently started on making things w polymer clay as a new hobby im starting on. At first it was very hard to use as I was not used to using clay. I even regretted buying the materials as it wasn't cheap and the things I made were very ugly. After some time, I felt that im getting the hang of it and improving slowly. Overall, its a very fun experience and hobby that im excited to continue.

For today’s SIL, I baked brownies. This was my first time baking brownies so I tried to be as careful as possible. I used flour, eggs, sugar, cocoa powder and chocolate chips. The brownies turned out fudgy and gooey inside, and it also had a crispy top. The different textures made the brownie more appetising. The hardest part was baking them as I had to make sure it was perfectly cooked, as over baking it , even just a little, would ruin the texture. I shared the brownies with my friends and family and they loved it, which gave me a sense of accomplishment.

For this SIL, I made a dreamcatcher, since my friend’s birthday is coming up. I took some metal wire and wrapped some lace around it, though, I must say, was hard at first since the lace kept on tangling. After that, I started weaving the strings into place. That was one of the most challenging part of the whole craft. Since, the circular frame of my dreamcatcher was too small, I wasn’t able to make a pentagon with the strings for the outer formation so many times. Then, I managed to do it after 30 minutes or so trying to figure out how to position the wire. But, when I started weaving, another problem arose, and I kept on tangling the wires on the inside so I had to redo the craft to many times. Luckily, I still managed to finish, so moving on, I made paper stars and tied them onto the dangling strings. Once I was done, I really felt accomplished, what didn’t seem possible at first was already staring right in front of me! Therefore, I do recommend making a dream catcher, and I will be doing more of these crafts in the future

I redo the tomato as it go a lil melted and made the gudetamma tamagochi. I think the hardest part for the gudetamma tamagochi was arranging all the features as I was scared that the clay when put wrongly will stick to the other clay. Overall I think I enjoyed making the mouth and the bacon the most.

Wow wow I cooked max and not a lot of cheese with scrambled eggs. The eggs were nice and cheesy and creamy but I think I forgot to take out a few shells. The max n cheese wasnt was creamy was I wanted it to be. I messed up the pan in the process a bunch of egg was stuck to it. In summary it was nice but next time I'm going to have to heat up the pan longer in order to not make the eggs stick

Today I went nsg and I learnt the importance of discipline, perseverance, and teamwork. Training regularly helped me improve my skills and build my confidence, even when facing stronger opponents. Learning anatomy, lighting and values: applying it to my art

Personally, I have very great interests in drawing and painting in general. I went back to digital art since I still wanted to improve. And I must say after a month of studying and practicing with values and anatomy (which I avoided a lot at first), I can see an improvement in my art. My rendering and lighting has improved. I know how and where and why shadows are casted on specific places, what colour I should use for what atmosphere I want my drawing to portray, and how I want to execute it. Previously I’d say my drawings were sadly quite flat but after learning anatomy, I can see the bone structure and do poses more easily such as hand structure and poses. I am extremely proud of this piece that I made, and I plan to animate it later on in the next few weeks, to give the essence of my artwork. In conclusion, I really enjoyed my art study even though I failed many times. And I wish to continue to improve with my art

I learnt some basic music stuffs, I gained a better understanding of how music is written and organised. I learnt that the five horizontal lines and spaces on the staff each represent different musical notes, allowing musicians to read and play music accurately. I also discovered how symbols such as clefs, time signatures and note values work together to show pitch, rhythm and timing.

I made a peanut butter cup with chocolate white sugar and puanut butter firstly i melted my chocolate which was the hardest part and the chocolate had to be tempered properly and cool down properly and not melt. Then i mixed the powdered sugar with the peanut butter to give it a thick texture.

I attempted to bake cookies for my family. This was my first time baking cookies alone. I learned how to play electric guitar i was so used to playing my classical guitar that i didnt have time and patience to learn my electric gutair but I felt bored and started playing with it playing the elec g is easier and the strings are easier to prress also the elec g is more heavy. One challange i faced want that I had to find the right tone for the amp to play the song I wanted as I was not that good at using the amp it took me some time to find but eventually i had the right to and it was fun playing. I learned how to play a lot of songs like crepp by radiohead althought it had barre chords but i feel it was eazy. Overall i learned that i need time a patience to learn a new thing!

For the past 3 days, I have been working on music production on my personal Ipad. Unfortunately, the application I am using does not allow me to export what I have been working on. However, it is something similar to what I did for one previous BL day for reference. My love for music has only grown throughout my use of beatmakers and music applications.
