Mohinga is a beloved Burmese dish that epitomizes the vibrant street food culture of Myanmar, especially as a breakfast staple. By the 19th century, Mohinga was regarded as a working-class meal due to its low cost, but over time, it has become so popular that today it can even be purchased as a ready-made soup (Sun's Burmese Kitchen, 2021). This savoury fish soup is renowned for its rich, aromatic broth, infused with lemongrass, turmeric, and fish sauce, creating a complex, flavourful base. The soup features fermented thin rice noodles that are delightfully chewy, and it is typically garnished with boiled eggs, fresh coriander, and crispy fritters that add a satisfying crunch. Often sold by roadside stalls in larger cities, mohinga is cherished for its comforting warmth and distinctive taste, offering both a nutritious start to the day and a taste of Myanmar's culinary heritage.

Sun's Burmese Kitchen (2021). Mohinga, a Beloved Burmese Noodle Soup. - Sun’s Burmese Kitchen: Authentic Burmese Cuisine.

For me, the most important of Competency Standard 1.1 Clinicians respond sensitively and without assumptions to the diversity of individual characteristics and social determinants of health was that as a clinician, each patient is unique. By respecting these individual differences, clinicians can adapt to meet the needs of each patient, which can lead to more effective care. I have enriched my understanding by consecutively updating my knowledge on different cultures and beliefs to comprehend the meaning behind a patients behaviours and preferences. This knowledge is essential to me in the workplace because it enhances patient care and outcomes such as effective communication to patients help in understanding their concerns which improves observance to treatment and the patients needs are satisfied.

Malaria is a life-threatening disease spread to humans by some types of mosquitoes. It is mostly found in tropical countries. It is preventable and curable (World Health Organisation, 2023). This infection is transmitted by a parasite and cannot be passed from person to person. The symptoms that come earlier from malaria are fever, headache and chills. Because some malaria symptoms are not easily detected, getting tested early is important. Malaria is treated with prescription drugs to kill the parasite (Mayo Clinic, 2018). Artemisinin-Based Combination treatment (ACTs) is a combination of two or more drugs that work together to fight off the malaria parasite in different ways.

Mayo Clinic (2018). Malaria - Diagnosis and treatment - Mayo Clinic.

In Burma, a mixture of ginger and palm tree juice is taken to alleviate flu (Semwal et al., 2015). Ginger is well known in traditional for its anti-flammatory, anti-viral and immune boosting symptoms. It can be made into a ginger tea, ginger decoction and ginger paste.

Social inclusion and non-discrimination are crucial in the success of resettlement for refugees from Burma to Australia. Social inclusion is about people being able to participate in society (Australian Human Rights Commission, 2013). Such as being able to access essential services for instance healthcare, education and employment. When refugees are welcomed into the country with guidance of some sort, they may experience reduced stress and a greater sense of well-being. Furthermore, creating an inclusive atmosphere promotes social cohensiveness and trust, encouraging refugees to positively interact with their different points of view. Non-discrimination is an integral part of the principle of equality (Australian Government, 2022). When refugees are fairly treated, difficulties that could have prevented them from adopting and achieving economic stability are overcome. Refugees are most likely to feel wanted and supported throughout their new journey. Overall, building an inclusive and comfortable atmosphere benefits refugees in their resettlement process by providing different kinds of viewpoints.

Australian Government (2022). Rights of equality and non-discrimination.

Myanmar's rich legacy is reflected in the elegant and culturally significant traditional Burmese clothing. It is known to be worn by those who held high positions in the Konbaung court. The traditional clothes of Burmese people are said to be date back to the 1750s (Myanmar Travel, 2020). The most popular is the longyi, which is a sheet of cloth, brightly coloured, often as a patterned skirt which is accompanied by a fitted blouse. The attire is then complemented with jewellery such as necklaces and gold necklaces.

Myanmar Travel. (2020). Myanmar Traditional Clothes.
