This assessment is designed to assess students’ understanding of Academic Integrity through practice. This assessment asks that students reflect on the use of Artificial Intelligence technology to write and complete assessments at University and reflect on the implications of this practice, with consideration for academic integrity and ethic in health practice and research. The use of AI in tertiary education can offer a range of opportunities to enhance student engagement, accessibility and collaboration. However, it can also pose a threat to academic integrity, with the increasing difficulty of differentiating between student-written work and AI-generated content. 

This assessment will incorporate two AI technology programs - ChatGPT and AICheatCheck: 

ChatGPT is chatbot created by Open AI. This AI technology device can engage in conversations with human like text and reflection skills and answers questions with university level discourse and use of academic references.
AICheatCheck is a device that can detect text generated by a GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) model, a type of AI that can produce human-like text. 

This assessment involves submitting 5 documents:

1) Short Essay - written by student (using a word document).
2) Short Essay - written by ChatGPT (using a word document).
3) Screenshot of essay answer by ChatGPT.
4) Screenshot of results when submitting students work to AICheatCheck.
5) Screenshot of results when submitting ChatGPT work to AICheck Check.

Below is a vignette highlighting an ethical dilemma that health practitioner/ health researcher/ laboratory scientist/ biomedical scientists may come across at some stage during their careers. Immediately after the vignette are some questions you are required to respond to. 

You work as a health practitioner/ health researcher/ laboratory scientist/ biomedical scientist at a private hospital in a multidisciplinary team, involving practitioners in the areas of psychology, laboratory medicine, pharmaceutical sciences, and biomedical sciences. A new colleague has just recently join your team and over the weekend you noticed a Facebook post made by your colleague disclosing private information about a client you share.

Please prepare responses to the following three questions:

  1. What action would you take immediately after learning about the situation described above? Make sure you clearly state your position, justify your decision, and support your decision with references. 
  2. What potential impact might your decision have on the client-professional relationship?

From molecule to market: what happens in pharmaceutical drug development?

Pharmaceutical drug development is the process of bringing a new drug to market.

Once scientists have discovered a promising new drug, the process of drug development can take over 10 years and cost billions of dollars to: i) create a new medicine from the new discovery, and ii) to get the new medicine approved for use by patients.

The process involves multiple scientific studies to ensure strong evidence of the drug quality, safety and efficacy. Various organisations can collaborate in conducting and reviewing these studies, including universities, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and government agencies.
