On the way down, Jonas opens his eyes and see lights that resemble the Christmas lights he had seen from a memory from the Giver. At the same time he hears music and singing while carrying in certain instinct in his heart that there is the feeling of joy at the bottom of the hill.

- After reading the last scene again, we realised that on his way down the hill, Jonas starts to remember all the happy memories the Giver gave him during his training period. He recognised the lights as a symbol of a place where families celebrated love. He felt the joy that was in the air and heard faint singing and music alike those in his memories. The scene also tells us that Jonas had succeeded in escaping the community. His choice of leaving the community to elsewhere and leaving the people to bear the burden of holding some memories themselves. Yet he shows no regret and awaits what the elsewhere has for him and Gabriel.

- The scene does not elaborate on the windows he saw and states that the music Jonas heard could possibly just be an echo.
