   1. Generally, I start by teaching "Bob-Ross" style how to use a material or technique, and then you try it. After you have the hang of it, you get a lot of freedom to do it your way! I hope to teach you simple tricks and tips that will help you to draw/paint more realistically and confidentially! But remember, you are graded on your improvement, effort, resilience, and attitude not on your innate ability.

Charcoal is best done on Strathmore drawing paper, which is in a brown pad of paper.

To Do:

1. Experiment with Charcoal. Play around with media (bags of materials are located in storage room)

4. Choose from the Semi-Choice options (under resources). Print it out. Draw from the print out.

5. FULL CHOICE. Choose your own resource and create your own drawing of ANYTHING using your new skills in charcoal.

1. Get set up for watercolor. Play with the paints for a few minutes.

2. Watch and paint along with "Watercolor Demo." 

3. Paint avocado without help. 

4. Paint avocado Bob Ross Style with me! It's under Resources.

5. Choose your semi-choice watercolor resource. Always paint/draw from printed out resource.

6. PLEASE repeat step 4 if you're asked to or want more practice. We should focus on color matching (I'll show you a great trick with an index card!)

7. FULL CHOICE watercolor!

Once you're completed with all four of the above, you can start working on a watercolor painting of your own choice! Still, I recommend fruit, veggies, flowers, food, candy, desserts, etc (things from the natural world).

1. Research: Screenshot at least 5 linocuts that you like. You can search instagram, tiktok, pinterest, etc. Be sure that the artists name/handle is visible. They do NOT need to be artworks you want to replicate... just art you honestly really like! 
2. Resources: Start gathering image resources to create a great drawing. (A great print starts with a great drawing). Put those resources into a Google Doc and email them to me: bookers@nostoschools.org
3. Thumbnails: While drawing from resources, create at least 2 different thumbnail sketches for your idea. Show them to your peers. 
4. Draft: Choose your favorite/best to turn into a detailed draft. Be sure your draft is the exact size of the printing block you will be using. 
5. Critique: Show your draft to your peers. Give and take feedback. This is your last chance to make important changes.
6. Transfer: We will then transfer the image to your block. We will stain it with India ink, you will mark which areas to carve (with "x" for example), and you will get carving!

1. Mind Map: Create your own mind map around your idea
2. Planning: Create at least two thumbnail sketches for each idea. Make sure your compositions are balanced. Share your ideas with your peers! FEED FORWARD!
3. Resources: Have resources out at all times -- your sketches are great but do not count as resources :)
4. Draft: Start experimenting and making a first draft! When you get stuck, ask for help from peers and your teacher!

1. Create a drawing that is 4x6 (or email your larger drawing to Mrs B who will print it 4x6) bookers@nostoschools.org
2. Heavy graphite on the back of your 4x6 drawing
3. Clip your drawing to a lino block
4. Go over all lines with a pen to transfer it to the block
5. Go over all transferred lines on your BLOCK with the pen, too, to make it easier to see
6. Mark “X”s where you will CARVE OUT (those areas will be white)
7. PRACTICE CARVING 
8. DO NOT CARVE until Mrs B has seen your practices
9. Then… finally… start carving

• Look around at puzzle art online. What do you notice?

• Narrow your focus: choose a theme to anchor your design choices (cars, cats, forest scene, under water).

• Consider your current skill level: don't be intimidated! there are lots of beautiful puzzles that aren't realistic, but they are usually always busy and well crafted. If drawing is scary, try designs, as long as they're carefully done they'll look amazing.

• Create a few thumbnails and a draft. Be open to feedback!

Requirements:

• Use resources when you're drawing!

• Excellent craftsmanship.

• Multiple sections, no dead space.

4. Size: Aim for printer paper size. If you go smaller, do more than one (or a small series).

5. Add on: Add another media. Thread, paint, buttons, gems, beads, shells, yarn, markers, etc. If you're fancy, part of your art can be your own drawing.

TIP: With collage, it's not always helpful to have a preconceived notion of what you want your end product to look like. Experiment and trust the process.                Also, your final piece doesn't have to be a rectangle.

1. Search: Look through my linked examples. Screenshot/save a few that appeal to you.

2. Thumbnails: Create at least 2 thumbnail drawings. Less than 5 minutes each. This is your composition planning time (how you will lay things out on your round).

3. Practice! Get painting paper. Draw your idea. Paint it as best you can. Ask for help when you need it.

4. Gesso: You must gesso both sides of your round when you get it. This will prevent warping.

5. Draw your image lightly with a pencil on your round.

6. Paint!

7. Remember: RISK - not doing the easiest possible thing. RESOURCES - try to combine more than one resource. Your rubric requires this for full points (if you're not ready for that, that's fine. You just will not get 100% full points).
