It it was my first day as a Sophomore here in COHEA. I was reminiscing about last year and what I've missed ever since my little incident. I wanted to see what things have changed, but most of all I wanted to see my beloved friends again. When I walked into my first ever class, I missed being in the class environment . I've been home schooled for 3 months and I felt so relieved to be in a classroom once again.

My favorite assignment was in my Second Period Law Class. Mr. Beltran decided to think outside the box and came up with an outstanding idea for an assignment. He came to the conclusion that we would be interpreting Kendrick Lamar's hit album "To Pimp a Butterfly". Most of us were pretty excited for this and couldn't wait till next week to work on it. When we would analyze a song from his album we would find a deeper meaning behind his lyrics and what he was saying trully.

The text I chose that I've read this year was "Antigone" by Sophocles. I liked how the story played out and was told. It really impacted me because of Antigone's courage to not back down and give her brother, Polyneices, the proper burial he deserves, but Creon denied. Creon, Antigone's uncle, was the King of Thebes and said that Polyneices was a traitor for fighting on the enemies side on the war. Antigone didn't take ,"no", for an answer and came up with a plan. Antigone planned to sneak out onto the battlefield and retrieve him to give him the proper burial he deserved. The quote I chose was from Antigone herself and she said, "I was born to join in love, not hate - that is my nature".

The academic challenge I faced was the Biology EOC. Mr. Suarez prepared us for many months, weeks, and days. Suarez told us that he knew we were going to pass and believed that we would conquer it. After many classes that involved teaching, experiments and a lot of laughter. There came that day. I was mentally and physically prepared for this, I studied the night before and said to myself," I got this, I'm going to pass for Mr. Suarez". When I finished the test I immediately checked what score I got and boy oh boy, was I overcome with joy. I got a high-3 and told Mr. Suarez said he knew I was going to pass and was so proud of me.

The song “No Pole” by Don Toliver really helped me get through my school year. Whenever I felt stressed or tired from homework, I would listen to it and feel better. The beat is super catchy and the vibe of the song made me feel relaxed. It reminded me to just breathe and keep going even when school got hard. I even listened to it before some of my tests to calm my nerves. “No Pole” became my favorite song and helped make this school year a little easier and more fun.

For junior year, I hope to stay focused and do my best in all my classes. I want to get better at managing my time so I’m not always rushing at the last minute. I also hope to make good memories with my friends and try some new things. One of my goals is to start thinking more about my future and what I want to do after high school. A quote that represents how I feel right now is, “Don’t watch the clock; do what it does. Keep going.” I know things might get hard, but I’m ready to keep moving forward and do my best.
