In a career spanning 25 years, he recorded hundreds of songs and soundtracks, bringing traditional Tagorean music to households across India. His accomplishments include founding Rabi Rashmi, a Tagorean music academy that trained thousands of students, and winning a Bengal Film Journalists' Association Award. Sagar Sen also performed a solo recital that was viewed nationwide during the first broadcast of Kolkata DOORDARSHAN in 1975. Sagar Sen recorded his first album in 1961 and achieved chart-topping success with several singles, including 1968’s “Ami Jene Shune Bish Korechhi Paan,” which reinforced his status as a leading contemporary Rabindra Sangeet singer. He followed that success with his first stereophonic LP in 1974. Through his career was cut short by cancer in 1983, his musical legacy endures through hundreds of recordings that remain in the AIR station’s archival collections. Alongside his singing, Mr. Sen was an adept musician who achieved mastery on a variety of instruments.
