Slipping Limit

The slipping limit is 3.50 F when the maximum impact force is 5F and the maximum horizontal force is 3F. The slipping limit and the impact force are directly proportional. As the horizontal and impact force increase so does the slipping limit. The slipping limit is also heavily affected by the type of shoe and surface that it is used on. The more unstable surfaces like ice or wet ground have a lower slipping limit which explains why it is easier to slip as you apply more force as compared to a dry and even surface. The type of shoe affect the slipping limit as the grip of the shoe such as the spikes or studs are taken into account as the design is to prevent or lower the probability of slipping by gripping the soft or uneven surface such as the ground or mud through the spikes, while shoe types such as sneakers or sport shoes are more likely to slip in mud or ice due to the lack of grip or spikes it has to the ground.

Maximum = 3F

Horizontal force is the force exerted by the runner to push himself off the ground. This force was adjusted from the simulation in such a way that it doesn't exceed the static friction limit, therefore preventing the track and field athlete from slipping. Aside from this, the value was adjusted to 3F to obtain the value of 0.6 for its coefficient of friction, to further adhere to the recommended value applicable in the real world. According to the United States ANSI method, a value of 0.6 or greater is classified as the "excellent" measurement for the coefficient of friction.
