• Write your first & last name on the top right directly under your title.
• Look around the room in which you are working and choose one corner to draw. It can be a simple, empty corner, a corner with a few items, or a very complicated scene.
• Sit in a chair with your paper on a table or on a book in your lap.
• Draw the room corner to the best of your ability.
• When you have finished, date and sign your drawing below.

1. Tape the four corners of a piece of paper off to the *right of your body (*left if you draw with your left hand).
2. Turn your body to face the opposite direction of your paper.
3. Cup your hand and gaze at a single wrinkle in the palm of your non-drawing hand.
4. Begin to draw that wrinkle, defined in drawing as an "edge." Move from wrinkle to wrinkle (edge to adjacent edge), confining your drawing to what you see in the center of your palm, in an area of about a square inch. Do not attempt to outline your whole hand, and do not turn to look at the drawing you are creating on the page.  
5. As you eyes very slowly track the edge of each tiny wrinkle in your palm, one milimeter at a time, your pencil will record your perceptions simultaneously. Your hand and pencil will function like a seismograph, recording every detail of what you're seeing. 
6. Continue to draw until the timer signals you to stop. Then you can turn and look at your drawing.
7. Sign and date your drawing.

• Your pencil must be GLUED to the paper. Once you begin drawing you cannot pick it up.  Find your way around, this might mean backtracking over edges you already drew.
• NO LOOKING at your drawing until time is called.

1. Draw the outside edges only, quadrant by quadrant.

2. Use the techniques taught for accurate transferring.

3. When completed with step 1, use the cues from the outside edges to start working inward, again, one quadrant at a time.

4. When completed, look at your actual hand (not the line drawing) and make any adjustments based on what you perceive to make it look more like your hand.

5. Re-tone any portions of the paper that got erased when transferring the hand drawing.

Phase 2: "Shade" your work by using subtractive methods.

1. Make sure you're sitting in the same spot with the room properly lit.

2. Prop your hand up in the position you originally drew it in.

3. Using your kneaded eraser, gently begin to pick up the graphite from the lightest lights on your hand. You may use your pink pearl sparingly.

• Set the ground by toning the entire scale. 

• Match the values by *subtracting graphite from the page with an eraser. If you need to add more, go back in by setting the ground.

^{*For 1, your darkest value, you will not be able to get it black. Instead for 1, you will use ebony pencil to create a darker value. However, do not press so hard it gets shiny.}

Scale 2: Additive. 

• Use your 3 pencils to shade the value scale using the *layering technique. 

• Match the values by shading with your graded pencils. Start with your hardest pencil (2H) and “set the ground” in boxes 1-4 by lightly dusting.

• Then use your HB pencil to add more graphite where necessary.

• Lastly, use your 2B to add even more graphite. For box 1, you will again have access to an ebony pencil. Even though it will not get “black”, it will be your darkest tone.

Create a proportioned line drawing of your nature still life using your chosen method.

Materials Needed:

• 12x16 drawing paper

• Still Life on Tagboard

• Drawing tools (pencil, eraser, etc.)

Procedure:

1. Prepare Your Paper:

   • Draw a template of the tagboard on your 12x16 paper.

2. Outline the Edges:

   • Use your chosen method to draw all the outside edges:

     • All the Way Around: Outline the entire still life.

     • Half & Half: Divide the still life into two halves and outline each section.

     • Quadrants: Divide into four sections and outline each quadrant.

3. Adjust if Necessary:

   • If your first drawing isn’t proportioned correctly, redraw on a new piece of paper.

4. Get Feedback:

   • Show your drawing to the teacher for approval when you believe it’s well-proportioned.

   • Modify any parts of the drawing that are inaccurate before moving on to the next step.

5. Add Details:

   • Once approved, draw only the interior edges of your still life.

6. Submit Your Work:

   • Photograph all versions of your drawing (including any drafts).

   • Upload all photos to the Google Classroom assignment.

• Take your time and focus on proportions.

• Always use the blind modified contour method. Avoid sketching at all times.

Remember, the more rugged the line, the more natural.
