Oney is Lady Washington's slave, but she is not called a "slave", she is called a "servant". Through hard work, Oney rises to the position of Lady Washington's personal servant. What Oney gets out of this is a great bedroom, beautiful attire, and great food. Her and Lady Washington become very close. Her mama was always telling her that she means nothing to the Washington's, that she is just something they own. Oney couldn't believe it, so she didn't. As years started to pass, her Negro friends began to talk about running. She couldn't figure out why they would want to leave the plantation of Mount Vernon when Martha and George Washington treated them so good. Slowly though, Oney begins to realize why they wanted to leave. Because they were all just property that would one day be given away. Eliza would soon be wed, and Lady Washington was going to give Oney to Eliza and her husband as a wedding gift. Oney did not like the man Eliza was marrying, and she knew that after they wed, Eliza would no longer be her friend, but her owner. She was saddened by the fact that Lady Washington was willing to give her up so easily, but she was a dower, just like her mama, and she would never be anything more. Unable to bear it any longer, Oney decided to run, to get her liberty and freedom. With the help of her good friend Louise and Captain Bowles, she sailed on the ship Nancy to Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Oney Judge listened to her mama and followed in her dad's footsteps. She was part of the Gone

The general was married to lady Washington and he was a very powerful part of the revolution. He was a very, respectful man. When he was elected president of the United states of America, he was sick at the moment. His slaves were, in a way wanting him to pass away. For this is because, once he died the slaves were to be set free.
The general, other wise know as the president of the United states of America, did end up getting better health, and he led he country. He, lady Washington and some slaves, one of witch was Oney judge, the ladies personal girl. They moved around to several different places but they had to be careful to where they were because the idea of slaves was different everywhere, so they thought.

The three people I will use from my book will be, the general, lady Washington , and mama. ( they all went to different high schools ).
In high school I suppose the general was a serious boy when he had to be and also could be playful at times. He was nice and respected himself and others. He was also very intelligent in all of his subjects.
In high school I feel like lady Washington was a well composed young woman as she still is now in her current age. I feel like she was being taught how to be a wise woman. Just like the general, I feel like lady Washington was a smart individual, with excelling grades in all of her subjects.
I feel that people really do change, and I feel that Mama was not always in an angry mood, I feel like when she was in high school she was in a better mood, because she had not been exposed to the way blacks were treated. She had also not been worn out by life. I feel at This point in her life (high school), she still had hope that some day she, as an individual, would be understood and loved. I also take note that she did not have the same "teenage" experience as the general and Lady Washington. This is because she was black and at this time period blacks were treated as if they were not human.

I feel that this song was from a black persons perspective, and they were just singing their hearts out, about what they so dearly wanted. All they wanted was to be freed and loved. such as most of the slave from our book taking liberty.

I feel that Oney judge would be suitable to go to your outstanding college because, she shows a very good attitude when she is in her studies. Oney has high hopes for herself and doesn't like being told something isn't possible. She has maintained a steady 4.00 G.P.A. Oney loves to be with her friends and never has a down time, shes either at school, with family or friends, always occupied. She acts and is a full grown woman, she is very respectful, and caring to all who cross her path. She is never late to class, and does everything on here own. She is a very responsible young lady. She is very good at her English language. A special talent that she possesses is that she, always knows how to help, whether there is a problem, or whether there is not. I (school counselor) feel, that Oney deserves to attend your college, because she is a very smart, kind, strong young woman. Oney has her standards set very high and so far she has gone above and beyond them, impressing herself everyday. Thank you
