In the Transactional/Reader Response Theory bases it theory on the idea that every individual is unique with regards to what constitutes his or her schema in any area of particular area.
To get students to engage in reading it was suggested that teachers design the lessons around either efferent response of aesthetic responses. Efferent responses are usually geared towards when a lesson is centered around an expository text and facts are needed to be found in the text. Whereas, in an aesthetic response is when a student's responses are personal and emotionally based.

The challenges to the constructivism theory is that the models where based in the last century. While the theories are great and still functional it does not take into account the new technologies of this century and how students learn. In a world filled with technology and information at our fingertips learning is still done relatively the same in most classrooms throughout America. We must now teach our students the way they learn and process their learning in the 21st century.
