He was born as someone high in the cast yet no one takes him seriously. So even though he is an Alpha people make rumors like "somebody made a mistake when he was still in the bottle-thought he was a Gamma and put alcohol into his blood surrogate. That's why he's so stunted"(46). So we can people make these rumors and it leads to this feeling he has that no one listens to him and that he is not good enough and he is so small in this big world. We also see how he says he has to "shout at an Epsolon to get an order obeyed"(65). This also shows that feeling that he has this feeling of being small and that no one listens to him. Not only that but he gets led to these feelings from the "practical joking of his equals among the men. The mockery made him feel like an outsider."(65). All of these lead to the feeling portrayed in this image. She try to convince herself she wants something or she is a certain way when deep down she wants something different. She acts as though she is like everyone else in the society yet I think she really likes Henery and isn't actually bored. She tells Fanny that "it's only about four months now since I've been having Henery."(40). She says it so casually like that isn't out of the ordinary for their culture. It's like she is putting up this fake face that it doesn't matter to her when it really does. She is still seeing him and still wants to and to try to save face she offers to have relations with Bernard out loud so "she was publicly proving her unfaithfulness to Henery"(58). She is putting up this mask to hide what she truly feels. That she has to be a different person someone that fits into society. Like in this picture he feels like in this worl he is the best and that the world revolves around him. It's almost like he sees himself as the main character like he is different and no one is like him. He feels like he has some sort of power that no one else dose. We see him exibite this when Bernard is telling him about himself and how him and Lenina are gonna be together and Hemlholtz just says "are you?" with "total absense of intreast"(68). He dosn't care even with somone who is seen as his so called friend. he only cares about himself. When Berbard shows emotion he "listened with a certain sense of discomfort" "but at the same time he felt rather ashamed for his friend"(71) This happened after he gave a while emotional rant to Bernard about himself yet when Bernard shows emotion he is ashamed and discomforted. The rant that was mentioned also goes to show that he really thinks himself special. He tells Bernard "I'm thinking of a queer feeling I sometimes get a feeling that I've got something important to say and the power to say it." he goes on to rant about himself and how "I'm pretty good at inventing phrases"(69). Everything he says just feels like he thinks so highly of himself that he is the only one that is struggling. That his experience is different than everyone else's. He complements himself and has this confidence and just thinks he is amazing. That is how he views himself in the world that he is amazing and the center of attention. That he can have these feelings while others can't. He isn't interested in anyone else.
