Group Member Name: Antoni Okinczyc

1. Title How Monsanto is Terrifying the Farming World

2. Summary
Monsanto has become the largest corporation in regards to agriculture. This is due to them not only having an effective monopoly on pesticides but also has a monopoly on seeds and seed technology. Due to this, farmers are forced to buy from Monsanto, which charges a lot of money for seeds and products if the farm is not large enough to by massive amounts. In addition to this, if farmers do not use Monsanto products, the company finds creative ways to sue the small farmers (who will have difficulty defending themselves in court) and ultimately makes it impossible to not buy from Monsanto. However, due to the cost of the seeds many small farms simply cannot afford it and as a result are forced to sell their farms to large farms that can.

3. Implications of Research (Why is it important?)
This is important because it shows how small farmers are no longer able to function, as well as agriculture being effectively a monopoly due to Monsanto owning so much of the process of growing crops which allows them to change prices and as result result in food costing more.

4. Connection to The Grapes of Wrath
This is a connection to the Grapes of Wrath due to them both involving one large, profit driven company owning the land which consequently removes small farmers from growing crops, similar to the way that the people in the Grapes of Wrath were unable to famr simply because all the land was owned by large companies and any land that was available, the people did not have any money to buy. This ultimately resulted in a major income gap between the large corporations and the small farmer and laborer.
