New York: Putnams.<br><br>"Officer Buckle and Gloria" talks about the consequences of not having rules or paying attention to the rules. Students can discuss what happened when the rules were in place and what happened when they weren't. They can then talk about which scenario was better. This is great to go along with Standard 1-2.</div>]]></description>

As the story goes on it shows her on bigger maps such as maps of her city country and then even the globe,  until she ends up right back into her room. This book goes great with teaching students about maps which falls under standard  1-1.1.</div>]]></description>

Throughout the book it gives students facts about the State that they live in, such as the capital is Columbia, the types of land that can be found in SC and even some famous people that are from the state. This book is great for introducing the state of South Carolina to first grade students. (Standard 1-1.1)</div>]]></description>

New York: Little Simon.<br><br>Duck for president is a book about a Duck who is tired of the work the Farmer is making him do around the farm. He decides to hold a vote to be the head of the farm. He wins and realizes it is hard work being the head of the farm. He keeps running for different offices and winning until he ends up becoming president. This is a great lead in to talking about the voting process. It also is a great way to get students interested in learning about elections. (Standard 1-2)</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Redbank, T. (2007). <em>Which Way, Wendy?</em> Fitzgerald Books.<br><br>Wendy is new in town and is trying to make friends. When some kids drop a map on the ground on their search for a secret cave Wendy picks it up and tries to use it to navigate her way to the secret spot! She ends up running into the other kids and they use the map together to find the cave and even the doctor's office! This is book gives a great example of how a map could be used in real life while explaining how to use a map at the same time. (Standard 1-1.1)</div>]]></description>
