So far I have just taken pictures of random places and signs as I walked around Manchester to get more ideas of how I can find the letters and how I can make some of them.
I also just made a quick sample alphabet just to show the different ways I can find the letters in different view points which gave me new ideas as well as help me see how there are times where s letter can be abstract and harder to see.

I made the letter A using my foot as a line which made it easier to see.

I also looked into other languages such as Chinese and tried to find letters inside another language which was quiet interesting to do. I also used reflections of the building which also created different letters.

For some of the pictures it was a bit more difficult to see the letters as it was a bit more abstract. For example with the S it is a bit more abstract but it also has the flow of an s (curve) if you followed the circles.

I think the letters I had the most difficulty in finding was the s and the n.

-signs (taking letters from signs) I got this inspiration from the "1000 signs" book by Taschen.

- Packaging letters (crips, drinks etc)- I quiet like this idea as I like to collect different packaging and stick them together and because packaging is something that we see everyday in food, stationary, books etc.

-looking at how reflections of buildings or building structure can create different letter forms.

- using different brands and using one letter from those brands to make an alphabet. 

-colour filters (makes the pictures feel more consistent and could provide a mood)

- graffiti - looking at different graffiti and finding letters for them.

-looking at letter forms where they feel "flowy"/ more abstract. 

- other languages (for example using the Chinese language and trying to find letters in those) - I could look into signs that are in Chinese or packaging or I could use pieces of paper to create some of the Chinese characters and find letters inside those.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS:

I am quiet happy with the end results I do like how I tried to make the signs have a blue colour while the background is black and white which helps the sign to stand out more but it also gives the poster itself a cohesive feel which makes it easier to look at.

At first I was worried about using yellow and blue because they do fit with each other but the yellow might be difficult to read but in the end I think it worked out.

I think if I were to do this again I would like to try and use other colour schemes or maybe try a bit of animation where the colours changes.

I also liked the idea of trying to find different letters within another language which was a interesting idea to explore and experiment with.

Furthermore I only really experimented with 1 ideas which is the idea of trying to find a letter within another language  and with the foil alphabet I liked the Idea of it but I didn't really feel like I further experimented with it like I wanted to. I think if it were to do this project again I would like to try and do a bit more research with the foil alphabet and the idea of making lots of words using limited letters and maybe using other mediums or was to represent this idea.

I didn't really follow the brief normally since I didnt really do the alphabet but I still did the 26 letter as I found different letters in different pictures. moon festival is celebrated on the 21st and it is traditionally eaten during the mid autumn festival (mooncake festival).

the mid autumn festival was traditionally a time to give thanks to the gods and is also the time where the moon is the brightest.

The designs on the moon cake reminds me of geometric patterns which makes me want to try and find some references in graphic design relating to patterns. The mooncake symbolize family reunion and the roundness symbolizes togetherness.
The reason why I thought of a moon cake is because the c shape is similar to a crescent moon and then there is the moon cake which has moon in its name so I thought that would be a nice link together even thought the shape isn't exactly a c I still think it'll be a good representation of the idea of the shape of the c though its name.

Furthermore moon cakes is something I eat with the family once a year so it links into my home, doing some research into the meaning of the mooncake made me realize that the festival is more about eating and spending time with family.

I want the letter to represent home and a festival that we celebrate by eating moonccakes.

some of these patterns reminds me of a continuous line drawing which I think will be interesting to look into as well as it also reminds me of  a Kaleidoscope due to its patterns.

I looked at the letter space project which helped to get some ideas on how I should present my letter.

For example some are very direct and you can clearly see what the letter is like the B for example while some are very abstract and you cant really tell what the letter is such as the D however the letter has a story behind it making it feel personal to the creator.

I really like the B as the texture and colours makes the letter stand out and how it represented the letterpress using a wood texture which is similar to printing. I also like how the M represents a retro theme by using different colours and font while the L uses the shape as a L and made it into different buildings which is quiet illustrative.

I quiet like the retro theme this letter has and it made me further think about the theme for my letter. I wanted to do either some lino printing or maybe make some stencils of the c letter and using some acrylic sprays to spray them. the reason why I thought about using the spray or the lino printing is because it gives it more texture and I can play around with two different colours.

This could almost represent the university or my accommodation since I walk to university with my ID card and lanyard.

I want to represent the idea of my daily life which can be mundane but its not bad and can be calming knowing that you have a routine and I like the curve the ribbon does and how it looks like the letter C.

This is mainly supposed to represent the travelling from the accommodation to the university but it could also apply to other people in the university as their own unique routine.

I quiet like most of them however I was struglling to make some of the colorus feel bright or fiding the right shade that I wanted to use.

I think my least favourite one is the first one as it feels to light and pastle in a way but I do like the idea of making the deisgn have a big of a graident as it gives it more depth however I also like the ones that are mainly solid as it gives it a more graphic look.

The reason for this is that I wanted to represent my place in a form of a hobby that I do which is that I draw a lot. I try to draw a few times a week and I think it would be  a nice idea to try and represent different types of mediums through a stop motion.

The place that I wanted to represent is my room and my desk since I like to be in my room and doodle a lot.
The tools I mainly use is pencils and I think it would be nice to show different types of pencils through a stop motion.

Drawing is something that I do in my free time and I personally enjoy trying to draw different things even if they don't look technically right, I want to show how I'm willing to experiment with different types of mediums and techniques even if they don't look right, I want to try and make a stop motion to show the different c in different mediums but I also want to give it a messy and handmade feel to show how drawing isn't something to be perfect but instead is supposed to be messy, abstract and experimental.

Furthermore I also like buying and looking at different art supplies and trying them out even if they don't work out so I think it would be good to try and show the different types of pens and pencils in a stop motion making the letter c.

Eventhoguh the letter c doesn't have a direct link to the idea and showing my hobby isnt eaxtly a "place" I wanted to try and be more abstract and come up with an idea of the letter c representing the different mediums as people can write a letter in different types of pens and pencils and pens and pencils are seen almost everywhere such as your home, school, office etc.

Seeing the different pens and pencils together to it becoming the pencil shavings to the c is almost like watching a "history" of pencils and pens going backwards.

If I were to do this stop motion again I would like to try and maybe take more pictures so it would feel more smoother as well as try other effects.

The main issue I had was trying to making the lighting consistent since this was mainly an all day thing so in order to make it consistent I made sure to use the blinds in my kitchen to cover any bright light. I also had some problems with adobe premiere since I wasn't too sure about what settings I should use but I was able to find most of the  information on the internet.

I also wasn't too sure about how many pictures I had take so some parts of the video felt longer when I places the images in adobe premiere so I had to delete some pictures which made it flow a bit better and made it faster.

Since the project said there can only be two colours decided to play around with some effects that adobe premier offered which helped me to make the colours more monochrome which fits with the project.

My idea was that I wanted to show almost like the the different pens and markers  going backwards to  a pencil and then getting sharpened till it becomes pencil shavings to make the letter c.

I did this to test out how different colours would look with each other.

Even though this idea isn't really my favourite I do think it helped me figure out different colour pallets which might be more useful for my other ideas as well as what mood different colours can give.

For example the yellow and blue is bright and colourful while the first red and green one is a bit darker but when you lighten the colours a bit it looks a  lot more colourful and gives more of a enthusiastic mood.

I think my favourite one is the 4th one since the colours are red/pink and green which makes them standout more since they're complementary colours and in a way they remind me of the traffic lights I pass by when I'm walking around Manchester. I used the Castellar font which I think suits the image as the font has a delicate feel to it and it also uses double lines similar to the design that I did representing the mooncake where it is repeating.

The one that I liked the most is the 6th one due to the colours fitting well with each other and the colours are lot more lighter which makes the images look more calm and easier to look at then the other combinations which are a lot more neon and bright. For the mooncake poster I decided not to use the red colour scheme with the gold colour even though those colours are traditionally associated with the mooncake and the mid-autumn festival and instead I used the black and white one just because the colours stood out more and I also think the black and white represent a moon in a sky while the pattern represent the mooncake which represent family and friends coming together and eating it. I think this gives the piece a double meaning as well as still relating to the idea of family as a place.
I also wrote mooncake at the bottom so people would know what the pattern represented and I decided to place it as the bottom so it wouldn't take as much room as before.

The part of the mooncake that is gone represent the bitten mark which makes a moon shape and also represent the letter c.

For the stop motion I wanted to represent the idea of the image moving despite having limited spaces and it being a poster so I decided to choose images which were more prominent in representing the letter c.  
Furthermore for the original video despite it not exactly being a limited colour pallet, I still think it represented the idea of the two colours with the brown pencil shavings and the grey pencils 

I also looked into other layouts such as just having the letter c made of pencil sharpeners as the poster which I also think works out good as well and is a straightforward representation of the letter c..

I like both of these ideas since they're both quiet different from each other in terms of idea which allowed me to explore different mediums such as stop motion as well as do some digital work. I also like how since the they're so different from each other they both work as a good stand alone poster/video.

The a3 poster for the stop motion one was ok as it wasn't my favourite but I did like the stop motion and how I used one of the picture frames to make the poster. Most people who saw the poster may think its just some pencil shaving which is why I like how it came from the pencil shavings.

If I had more time I would've liked to try and do something with screen printing with the mooncake one to give it more of the traditionally feel or something with etching but I'm glad that I took more time to develop the stop motion idea as it made me more open minded about trying new ideas and developing it. By doing this it has encouraged me to try stop motion more often and I would like to incorporate it later on in my project. Furthermore I also would've like to experiment with other editing for the stop motion but at the end I really like the results for both of them.

I then used the screen layer on top of the picture and used the bucket tool with the colour purple and changed the background to a light yellow.
I quiet like the purple and the light yellow combination as its not too bright and it still makes the purple stand out and the two colours fit with each other as they're complementary.

It was quiet difficult to find a colour scheme and a frame in the stop motion  and trying to make it into a A3 poster so I think I did a decent job at it but if I were to do this again I think it would be nice to maybe try and other textures or patterns to help with making the poster look better.
