Even though there is not much beach between the dunes and the ocean, the baby turtles can have a hard time making their way to the water. One time, my friend and I noticed that a nearby nest was unprotected by it's usual barrier. We knew we had to be careful so we wouldn't disturb the nest. We grabbed some supplies from our car and helped fix up the barrier. She kept thinking “someone needs to fix this food waste!” She attended a meeting in another school and noticed they were collecting food. She realized that the answer to “who is going to do something about this food waste?” was HER. Care To Share was born! I created a toolkit with instructions on how to start this program. The wind blew open the cover of several trash cans and trash was everywhere. My family put on gloves and picked up all the trash on our street. It wasn't our trash but we didn't want it going in our neighborhood streams and woods. When I was in 5th grade a couple of friends and I put together a bake sale to raise money for our local animal shelter. We baked for days and then sold our goods in my friends garage. We donated the money to our local shelter and got to meet some of the dogs and cats when we went, we were even featured in our local paper!
