This serves as a repository to all the resources available for use for this specific Reading Circles: The Wonderful World of Books Module. Updates may be made to this resource so we advise checking this site for updates yearly.

Use of ICT tools in RC
Please note that all resources created using ICT tools (e.g. Padlet, Mentimeter, Flip, Parlay, etc.) are resources that are view-only. Teacher-facilitators should recreate them for their own use.
If you wish to use Padlet, we recommend obtaining a Padlet subscription, as each module typically uses more than the 3 Padlets currently allowed in a free Padlet account.
Alternatively, with a free account, inactive Padlets can be archived after use to allow more to be created.

Use of Licensed Materials (Intellectual Property Rights)
Some of the licensed materials curated as part of the module resources have specific terms and conditions regarding its use (e.g. reproduction, distribution and hosting). These would typically be embedded in the SLS course. As such, please refrain from usage that violates the terms of use.

Number the Star SLS Course (SLS login required)

This course includes the activities for Sessions 1-8.

This package is meant for use by facilitators of Reading Circles (RC) based on Lois Lowry's novel, Number the Stars. RCs provide a rich reading experience for advanced readers who read widely and deeply.

Each RC SLS package incorporates protocols, tools, tasks and multi-modal resources used in the module, to help facilitators customise their RC to support Blended Learning and inquiry through Self-Directed Learning (SDL). Note that not all activities from Sessions 1 - 8 are represented in this course.

This SLS package should be used in tandem with the companion Number the Stars Resource Guide for Facilitators and Number the Stars Module Learning & Resources Booklet.

Note that some ICT tools such as Flip may require 2 Factor Authentication for access. Do factor in time for prior set-up.

Teacher-facilitators should make a copy and modify according to their participants' level of readiness and profile.

A Note on the Session Resources

Resource Sheets and Learning Sheets (PDF): These can be printed for use in Reading Circles.
Interactive Resource and Learning Sheets: These are versions of resource and learning sheets that have been created on other interactive platforms (e.g. Padlet, Flip, Parlay, etc.), some of which may be used in place of the printable resources, and that teacher discretion is needed to make the best choice to suit the learner readiness and designed interaction patterns for their Reading Circles. Some of the resources created have been shown as finished products (e.g. with some examples of learner responses). Those resources need to be modified (e.g by removing the sample student responses) when teachers recreate them for use in RC sessions

Gino Bartali, a Tour de France winner, who took a stand against Nazism, against "a war without reason, without honor", to help more than 800 during the war. He kept quiet about his war efforts, with the belief that "heroes are those who have suffered. I am just a cyclist." (See his granddaughter's note as well as Author's note).

"Some medals are pinned to your soul, not your jacket."

This resource could also be used to help students to consolidate their understanding of bravery.
