Many "socs" go to school because they have the money. "Greasers" on the other hand do not have the money to stay in school so they often drop out. Education for them  would be important because if they would go to school they could be more intelligent, go to college, and get a decent job. If the greasers could get an education to get a good job then they could have a bright future. When Ponyboy missed so many days of school the school or teachers didn't seem to care of pay attention, now a days if a student were to miss school the make sure to call your parents, and they have make-up work for you.
