He began his career after graduating from the bachelor of business administration (BBA) program at Kansas State University by serving as a supervising senior at KPMG Peat Marwick, and then joined Pizza Hut Inc. as director of financial services. Michael W. Kramer served in this position for five years before moving on to take on his first executive role as chief financial officer at Einstein Noah Bagel Corporation. Successful in facilitating a full corporate turn-around within four months, Michael W. Kramer went on to serve in high-level financial leadership positions with The Limited and Gateway. Named vice president and chief financial officer (CFO) of Apple Retail in 2001, he helped lead the development and implementation of a retail strategy that saw revenue grow from $0 to $2.5 billion run rate in four years. Michael W. Kramer then returned to fashion retail as executive vice president and CFO of Abercrombie & Fitch, where he collaborated on a strategy that supported an international expansion. He went on from this role to serve as president and CEO of fashion wholesale brand retailer Kellwood Company, and later as chief operating officer of JCPenney.
